NYT Bestseller Numbers

Someone brought up an interesting topics on another thread. I think it's great there are so many successful writers on KB, and I feel fortunate to have found a place where everyone is so willing to share with newer members, like myself.

I would be interested to hear from people who have hit the NYT lists as to how many sales it took, and over what period? I would assume most the NYT bestsellers on KB made the list through ebook sales, but any insight would be great. And a follow up question would be, did it have an impact on your sales of that book, or future books?

It took me about 12K sales in one week (Jan 2013) to hit the list. NYT has a two week lag from the time of when the sales spiked and when they announce, so you could have fallen off by the time they tell ppl about it. It did affect my other books that were available at the time, but you have a chicken or the egg question here. Did it help b/c it was on the NYT list or was it the number of sales that got u onto the NYT list in the first place?

If we're talking about sales, the only list that I can tell actually does anything is the Amazon top 100 list. The others seem like icing. USA Today does have links on their site, the cover, and description (I made that list too, but only that 1st week. The 2nd week I sold more and fell off).

Anyway the NYT list is one of those cool things that I thought would never happen. I can say I'm a NYT author now, which might help with pulling in new readers, but I havent had anyone tell me that's why they got the book. That's nice b/c it means the playing field is leveling out.

Did you update all your covers to reflect the achievement? I'm pretty sure I would. :)

Not yet. It's on the new covers and the cover that was the NYT bestseller. I have to go through nearly 30 covers to get them all updated. :)
Also, something to think about, NYT is not solely based on sales. It sucks, but that's not how they do it.

I know for the main list they look at diversity of stores. But do they have other factors for ebook? What kinds have things have you noticed?
