Offering formatting services for authors

Hello! My name is Chloe Kraft and I would like to format your books.

I have been formatting for my mother, Meg Harris, for a couple of years now. I began formatting her books for Smashwords, which entails adding a table of contents, deleting hidden bookmarks, changing the title and copyright so that they fit with the guidelines, and making everything look nice and streamlined. I have not yet experimented with adding in images, but I believe I can do that too. Recently, I became capable of changing my formatting for .mobi (Kindle), .epub (Barnes & Noble), and pretty much any file type you could want. I work quickly and can often complete my formatting of a book within about twenty to thirty minutes of receiving an email (although I do have classes and cannot always receive emails immediately). I can also combine multiple books into collections, and resize your cover if you happen to need that done.

I would like to charge $15 as a starting rate, with $10 for novellas (under 25k words). You would pay me via PayPal after you receive your formatting, in case I run into any unforeseen difficulties or you are unsatisified with something and would like me to change it. I am fairly new at this, but I have yet to run into any serious problems with my mother's work. So far I have been able to fix everything. If it does not make it through Smashwords's meatgrinder, I will of course reformat for no extra cost.

I am in my second semester of college and would possibly like to work with books (publishing, editing, et cetera) as a future career, so any experience is greatly appreciated. I am also willing to proofread for spelling and grammatical errors, although my only experience is with my own work and with work my friends have done, and price would be negotiable. I would first proof a few chapters for free so you can see if you would like me to continue. You can contact me at [email protected] or send me a private message via KB if you are interested in either my formatting or copy editing. Thanks very much for taking your time to read this!

Friendly bump :) Also, you can now find my website here: http://wwofbooks.blogspot.com/
I've bookmarked your site, Chloe. I may have a few short stories out this year and will be in the market as I'm totally lost at formatting.

Best of luck to you.  :)
Yes, I've bookmarked, too. I have a few things in the pipeline.
Will keep you bookmarked... I agree.. formatting is kind of a nightmare
Welcome to KindleBoards, Chloe!

You're welcome to promote your business and website here in the Writers' Café, but we ask that the same basic rules be followed as we have for authors in the Book Bazaar: you may have one thread and must post to it rather than start a new thread each time. New threads will be removed. Please bookmark this thread so that you can find it again to post to. And, you may not make back-to-back posts within seven days.

If someone responds (such as this post), you may reply but otherwise must wait seven days, thanks! Also, active members (10 or more posts, active in the last 60 days) may have a listing in the Yellow Pages for Authors.

All right, I'll gladly offer credit where it's due. I saw this thread and figured, "OK, at these prices, what can I lose by trying?" I've had two titles sidelined for months on Smashwords (and thus all of its distributees, if that's a word) while my Amazon versions had no trouble at all. One of these Smashwords orphans had an NCX error and the other some sort of line break formatting conflict. I must have tried half a dozen times to get these resolved and finally gave up. The hours I was burning were just frustrating me to no end.

I sent both files to Chloe last night at 10:30 Pacific. She had both files turned back to me an hour later, and both sailed through Autovetter without a hitch. They are now awaiting manual review. Neither title has been able to get to this point on Smashwords before, despite my best efforts. I couldn't be happier with Chloe's work. She will be my go-to for such problems in the future.
Thanks very much for your kind post, William! I'm glad I could help :) And thank you to everyone else for your interest, I very much appreciate it.
Any plans on venturing into Createspace formatting? I have done one and it turned out how I wanted, but it took FOREVER. I am thinking about paying to have this service done next time.. not sure yet.

Yes, that would be great.
Hmm. Createspace formatting might be a little bit outside my capabilities, but I checked out a few guidelines/requirements and I'd be willing to give it a shot. :)
