Welcome to the Boards. Oh what an open ended question to ask here.
The first thing you have to do is check the status of delivery incessantly. Then stalk the UPS guy. Once you get the box, you open it, play with it a bit, then log back onto the Boards and tell us how absolutely fabulous it is. Then you skin it, cover it, and bag it. And of course, you have to take pictures of it in all its new glory and post those. Then you hack the K2 and download a ton of screensavers. OMG, I forgot about a name. You have to name it. If you can't think of one, ask here. Someone will be able to supply an appropriate name once you've determined whether its male or female.
Next, you log onto the Boards every morning, tell us the temperature of where you live and what you plan to do for the day. Share a good recipe that will add five pounds and make us drool. Post pictures of your kitchen appliances, and tell us all of your funny stories. Inform us of every good book that you read, and bad book too for that matter. Join a book klub. Increase your post count. And last but not least, find all the eggs before next weekend.
Hope I haven't overwhelmed you.
Welcome, and get busy.

Oh my. You all forgot to tell me that that was all required. Maybe I should rethink joining....

Um, how does one determine the gender of a new Kindle? Turn it over and look... where exactly?

I had to revisit this to see whether there was anything left on the ToDo list. Let's see... Waiting for two BB bags to take pics. Screensavers, ok, soon, but not today, too busy. A name... well, maybe, not sure if she really meant it. Recipes, got it, that's easy. Guess that's next. Of course it might be easier to browse my favorite cookbooks if I hadn't just decided I needed to drop a few pounds for summer. Being a new Kindleowner is such hard work.

Yes, but with a lot of dedication, I know you can do it! And we are all here to help you! Your commitment is huge but with the help of all these enabler, it's not insurmountable.

(and she wasn't kidding about the name)
Oh, I meant whether my *Kindle* was kidding about her name. I had just about picked one for her and was going to sleep on it to make sure, but the next day she seemed to want a different one. So I was holding off, refusing to acknowledge it, and hoping she'd settle for the one I picked.

What I chose made sense to me. From Hindu mythology, Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music, and the arts. Apparently at festivals honoring her they put books on altars. It seemed appropriate. And she does have a music-themed skin. And she could be Sara for short, which was also my great-grandmother's name, so that was kind of nice.

But then she decided she wanted to be Kali, the "Devourer of Time"... I'm not sure I really want to accept that.

Kali, the Devourer of Time? She wants to be named after KIndleBoards? ;)
LOL! Maybe she was feelish peevish at having to compete with KB.

I hope the chosen name is Saraswati, kinda like that.
I do too. Just have to talk her into it. :D

Okay...so what name did she get???
Inquiring minds want to know!
I decided it was going to be Saraswati. However (and I swear I am not making this up), within two minutes of me consciously deciding that, I had the first and only technical glitch -- I pressed the next page button and it didn't respond, I pressed it a few more times and nothing happened, likewise with the home button and the menu button, so I decided to put her to sleep and restart to see whether that would fix the problem. When I pushed the sleep switch, she responded by executing every one of those previous button-pushes in rapid succession and THEN going to sleep. So that may have been Kali manifesting her displeasure. Tough luck, I'm not changing it now.

Have you ordered your Keurig Coffee Maker and your Rice Cooker yet?
LOL! I gave up coffee about two years ago (now only drink it very rarely, just kind of lost my taste for it). And I love rice but I make it lots of different ways so I think I need more control than a rice cooker would give me, and besides I don't have room for any more kitchen appliances.

I have an Oster mixer/blender/chopper/meatgrinder which is now 27 years old and running splendidly, though.

(Wait -- you were talking to me, right? ???)

Quite a change in 7 weeks. Since you chose a name, I guess you decided to keep it? ;)
I am so very glad you did keep it (her) and appreciate the way you liven the board.
Thank you, intinst!! I was just thinking on Saturday that I've come a long way since that first post... because after getting a skin and an Oberon, on Saturday I finally got my two BB bags, making the transformation complete! :D

The coffee maker also makes awesome tea, from what I understand - and you need a KitchenAid as well - decalgirl is going to be petitioned to make skins for appliances ;)
Oh no no no no no -- that Oster has been with me through multiple moves, and it has everything I need and more, so I'm not giving it up for some newfangled gadget. Forget it.

As for tea, I have a kettle that works perfectly... ;D

I did discover recently that they make skins neither for my phone nor for my laptop, so those would be first on my list.

And while you drink your tea or coffee and eat your rice and do your baking, you can read your new Kindle. . . .

(just my attempt to bring this back on topic. :D )
Hey, this time it wasn't my fault! Really! Um... Dori started it! I swear, Officer, that's the truth! :D

If you are going to make tea, you may as well get a Zarafina tea maker. They are being sold for $49 on Amazon right now.

What? If we are going to enable each other, we may as well enable to the max.
Shhhshhh! Tea makers are contraband in this thread. ;D

(And I have a kettle. And a teapot. Several, in fact. And no room for more countertop appliances.)
