Someone has probably posted about this already... but I'm so excited.  Diana Gabaldon's Outlander is now in development to become a TV series on STARZ.  This was announced in November, but I only recently found out about it.  Outlander is one of my all time favorite novels/series.  Hope it doesn't take forever before the TV series becomes a reality.

AWESOME!

This is my favorite book (and series) of all time, ever!!  ;D ;D

I hope it will be done well and not a hot mess that "One for the money" was  :(. That was a HUGE disappointment.

I am always so leery of well written books that are made into movies. The only decent ones I think have been "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "The help." And the later Harry Potter's.
So I just had to google this and it looks like it might actually be getting farther than it ever has before!  So far they've got a good screenwriter in charge of the adaptation but that's all I could find.

This is really going to hinge on the casting.  DG has already gotten 900,000 responses on Twitter regarding this and I know that there have got to be huge fans who aren't even on twitter (like me) who are waiting with baited breath.  Unfortunately, Jamie is SO well loved by SO many women.... how will they find the one man who can play him well considering how he ages through the series and keep all of our fantasies satisfied?

Personally, I like to picture someone like Andy Whitfield (the original Starz Spartacus) playing the role.
You know, members here have been 'casting' the roles for a film about this series for, literally, 4 years. . . . . :D

me: I thought it (the first one) was an o.k. book.  Kinda kept dragging on, though; I felt like it could have successfully ended about 3 different times before it did.  Never had any inclination to then read further in the series.

Kindlequeen, I totally agree. I thought the late Andy Whitfield was a beautiful man and a beautiful actor. But unless they cast someone for Jamie who's just about perfect, lot's of us will be disappointed. I think, first and foremost, he must be young. Jamie is only 23 when Outlander begins, and that first novel is so rich (and long) I think the producers could get at least five seasons worth of episodes from that one book. In addition to young, he should be tall, and extremely hot (of course), and it wouldn't hurt if he were a native Scot or Brit or even Aussie. Aside from looks, he must have great acting chops and screen presence. I'm thinking an unknown actor would be a good choice. We can worry about an older Jamie in the subsequent books when the time comes.
