Paperwhite Battery Charging

Hi again, kindlematt!

Modern day batteries are much more hardy the old ones used to be. Personally, with all my Kindles, I've just dived right in and started using it - I don't even bother to charge it first, if it already has a charge in it and I never purposely let it run completely flat. I keep it topped up, so as never to be without a usable Kindle.

I pretty much do as Linda, though I have, occasionally, let it go all the way down.  The thing is, it's still good for so long even when the indicator seems to show it's practically dead, that I sometimes don't think about it until I get the 15% (or is it 5%) warning.  Even then, it's still going to be good for a significant amount of time.  Sometimes I think of it and plug it in because I happen to remember to, sometimes it goes nearly flat before I bother. 

Where does it say the % on the paperwhite.

Only when you get to the trigger point. Otherwise it's just the battery icon in the upper right when the menu bar is accessed.

I just don't remember if it reminds you at 15% or 5%. . . maybe both.

Mine ran out for the first time the other day. It said the battery was empty and told me to charge it, then carried on working for about two hours until I got home (I was halfway through a road trip with my wife). I had no prior warnings and the battery icon was completely empty.

They take a while to charge, though. I guess I'm just used to my iPhone, which is fully charged in less than an hour.

They will charge faster with a wall adapter than via the computer/USB.

Faster still if you use the 'powerfast' wall plug available at Amazon, though I don't know as I'd say you should spend the money for that if it's just the one device. I also have a couple of Fires so have one and plug in whatever is empty.

I almost picked up one of those powerfast wall chargers, but I noticed Amazon says they work on the Fire, but not for the eink Kindles, so it won't charge a paperwhite any faster than a standard charger. It would be good to have if you have both types of Kindle's though.

Really? When I got it with my HD7, I'm pretty sure it specifically said it worked for eInk devices as well. Regardless, I've been using it for both my Fires and my other kindles with no ill effect.

Hi, Ann. The product page says that it works with Fire and ereaders, but it won't charge the ereaders any faster than the standard charger. Don't know why.
