I have published years ago under my nickname or pen name. It's only one name, a first name, not a last name. I have a new book, and I am told you can use a pen name, but it must be two names, a first and a last. Has anyone published recently with just one name?

Impossible on KDP, I'm afraid. A friend of mine is an accomplished author in his country, really a household name, writing under a one-word pen name. I translated a couple of his books and helped him publish them on KDP. There was no way we could overrun this "two names" rule, even though he was already famous in his country under that particular pen name. In the end, we were obliged to add an initial.

I think sometimes these things are due to some degree of cultural blindness on behalf of the designers and/or coders of the UI. My wife constantly has issues with her hyphenated last name, even to the extent of being told that the hyphen is an 'invalid character.'

Coincidentally, that's what she thought about my last protagonist. :)
