I was ranking very nicely only to wake up this morning and see that Amazon has returned my book back to paid! I've reached out to KDP customer service but who knows when I'll hear back. I emailed ENT, Ebook Discovery, and Ebook Hounds to let them know of the price change before the newsletters go out today. This is so frustrating, and I have a bookbub coming up!

All my nice free rankings are gone and momentum is shot. I am so, so disheartened (to say nothing of the money I've now wasted on booking promos). For 6 years, I've worked hard to gain any tiny bit of success in this industry and really feel like giving up.

UPDATE: KDP customer service says this is an issue price matching due to Nook books being down. If you have a freebie that has been price matched from B&N, I'd double check your listing. They said they'd address my request in 24-48 hrs.  :(

Thx for the update.

Just out of curiosity, when you first asked them to price match it did you provide them with a couple of addresses or just Nook?
I usually give them two. I wonder if I'm safe...

Only Nook this time! In future, I'm definitely going to list them all. I don't understand why KDP can't let us control promo pricing from the dashboard like every other vendor. What's the point of making authors jump through hoops??

While that does suck, if your books are wide and you've already paid for the promos, I hope you're at least telling the promo sites to only show the links to the other vendors where it's free. Better to get that than give the whole thing up because Amazon dropped the ball.

Some ran the promo, others didn't and I had to eat the cost.

Yeah, definitely sorry to hear that this happened.  That sounds like a worst case scenario and a huge damper on all that excitement I'm sure you had going into the promos.  I don't really know what you can do beyond what you've done, but hopefully it can all get sorted out for you in one way or another.  We're rooting for your promos!

Because they don't really want authors setting their books to free other than by being in Select and using the free days. Technically, setting to free wide and then price-matching is a violation of the terms of service.

Very sorry to hear that happened. Very nearly happened to me with my Bookbub a few months ago, and I was pulling my hair out hoping that Amazon would re-do the pricematch in time.

That may be so, but they actually have a boilerplate dropdown option to request a price match when you email them.

Which is really kind of dumb, if you consider that when we signed up for KDP we all agreed not to set the price of our books on any other site lower than they are on Amazon.

Very distressed to hear this happen to you. It's always had me worried and I have three books coming up free in sequential order in two weeks. My trad publisher has to be on the ball to get that right. I really hope you get this resolved very, very fast.

Thanks for the support and kind words. KDP did return my book to free, so I only lost a few promo opportunities today. Please, please remember check and re-check your freebies because you never know when things can change.

Glad to hear that it ended up not so bad. It still sucks that it happened, but at least you got it all running again :D

In July, I ran a Kobo promo....and had a hell of time getting KDP's attention to price match. I emailed them well in advance and during a 7 day promo...they only got the price match price right for two days!

It went from one team to another to another. Total chaos.  Their customer support has been hit hard during the pandemic but it always was "off" even before.
