My new short horror story The tool is up today. Just wondering how long it will take before somebody notices that on the cover is a delightful looking schoolgirl. After reading quite a few posts about erotica and under age sex I thought I would use the cover as a lure for the Mary Whitehouses roaming the internet. He he. If I don't receive any flak I shall be most surprised. There is no under age sex in the story BTW, Just the intimation that there might be as part of the storyline.

Just voicing my opinion here but do you really think it's a good idea to be misleading readers?

I think Indie writers take enough stick from the public as it is.  ???

I wouldn't do it, TBH. Even the intimation that there might be under-age sex is too far, IMHO. And using it as a marketing method? No.

I don't think I'm misleading people. They wouldn't know anything unless they actually purchased the story. It's the actual story itself where I am misleading people into thinking something might happen when it actually doesn't. So it's not in any way a marketing method AFAIK. And as the main character is a young schoolgirl I felt no qualms about using one to adorn my cover. Thanks though for the warnings.

Seems kinda cheap, rather than pushing any boundaries. Art should be challenging, but this seems more like "sex sells!" and isn't really challenging anything.

Edit: Okay, just looked at the book. I'm more creeped out than anything. Who's the target audience, exactly?!

Why, horror aficionados of course. The whole idea is to creep em out,as you so succinctly put it. Thanks very much for that compliment. Stephen King has gone far further than I have with the young girl theme. I remember reading, a long time ago, of his description on the girl protagonist defecating in the woods in The girl who loved Tom Gordon. Maybe the story merited such a description? I wouldn't go that far myself. I prefer innuendo and allusion.

I read threads like this, and I realize why I am not rich.

I have ethics.

Do what you want, buddy.  You are going to anyway.  In fact, the whole point of this thread was to bring attention to yourself by riling up people with a cheap stunt.  Congratulations, you got attention.  Good luck to yourself.

greenpen, it might work for you so it is worth a try.

I am a little careful myself since I put a description about high school girls in my novel Almost Women. It got pulled by Amazon and everyone said it was because the girls were too young. So I rewrote the description and changed it on the novel. The high school girls were only part of the novel anyway.

However I really never found out why the novel was pulled. Maybe it was due to something else since Amazon never said. They just sent me an e-mail and said the content was inappropriate. Then I responded back and told them that it wasn't and they reversed their decision and put the novel back on.

But since I don't want the hassle, I will be careful in the future.

Good luck on the sale of your new book. I don't real horror books myself since they give me nightmares, but my wife loves horror novels so she might read it.

I will treat that comment with the contempt that it deserves, pal.

Thanks for that. It's a story I had to write, if you know what I mean? I have been careful not to mention any age and there isn't actually any sex apart from where I mention the intended victim has an erection at the thought of spanking the girl. That's about as risqué as it gets. It's not a novel, just a 3500 word short story. I intend to write more on this young girl if people take to her.

FYI, nothing about that cover or synopsis looks like a horror book.
I can assure you that it is. Thought you said earlier that it creeped you out?

The photo on the cover is of a child. And the description is "A dirty old man gets more than he bargains for when he uses a very special escort service."

It seems to be doing well for the first day. Had a purchase and an offer of a review. I think it's probably going to be OK. I'll try and make a more horror like cover for my next story so as not to mislead anybody:)

Readers are gold, not playthings. We live by those who read us and are set aside by those we deceive. If we promise a great read, so we must strive deliver it. If we smack them on the side of the head for our own amusement, we deserve what we get.

Amen! Halleluja! God-Bomb!

Exactly. And so he does. It's a horror story.

I do hope it is a good read, I spent enough time working on it. It's also a tale with a twist ending.

I think Chris Hansen is going to walk in any minute now and ask you to have a seat.

Good marketting technique. If I was a pervert, I'd buy it. Of course, then I'd get mad and stalk you like Jeffrey Dahlmer for tricking me. (I don't think perverts read blurbs, I think they go by the cover)
