Question for my fellow romance writers....

I've always stayed in KDP Select because it has worked very well for me, but I am often questioning whether to try some other outlets for a few of my books. I would specifically like to know about AllRomanceBooks - do you use it and do you see good sales from it?

I just got all my books up on ARe at the end of December, and so far they're selling really well. My m/m erotic romance series is selling the best, but I'm not sure if this is because m/m does well there, or because I have two freebies in that series that are driving sales. Regardless, it's definitely been worth it so far.
I love the categories on ARE. I usually get a sale or two when I upload something new, but then .... crickets.

AND some of the readers will buy a five-flame book and complain about too much sex. So, it is not the land of milk and honey, but if you're going wide distribution, may as well go wide.

NOTE: Save your new book periodically as you're working on it (this doesn't lock anything up) rather than have the form DUMP ALL YOUR DATA if you do one thing wrong.

The authors I know who do really well on ARe write M/M or historical romances. Me and my rag-tag association of lesbian writers get all giddy if we make a sale once every three months.

Have you tried other methods of pushing traffic to your site or amazon?
I'm not on ARE, and it's because the consensus seems to be that what sells there is very hot romance. Mine are mild and vanilla, so I haven't bothered.
I uploaded all my books a few month ago to ARe. (see sig) My books are Epic Fantasy with gay main characters, and they contain explicit scenes.

I've had steady sales, though nothing like on Amazon. If you're not in Select, it can't hurt to try them out.

They have to approve your account, which usually takes about two-three days. From then on it's clear sailing. Uploading is a breeze and your books are instantly on sale.

Tip: the first two weeks (if memory serves) they put your books in the popular New Releases category. You could consider uploading them one by one.

Whatever you decide: good luck. :)

ETA:

They allow you to put a book perma-free.

Please, tell us more about these "methods."

I'm on ARe, and my romances sell very well there. Mine have a wide range of spice levels, ranging from sweet to erotic.
