Questions for Writers who also sell Pre-made Book Covers

I've thought about selling some pre-made covers for awhile now. I love designing after a long day of writing. It offers a second wind. Any information would be helpful going into this.
I've pretty much gathered that $30-$40 is the going rate for well-designed ebook covers, using and manipulating stock photos bought legally, and fonts free for commercial use. My question is, do you find that sets (branded covers of three, for example) sell better than single covers? What genres are the most popular? Do you sell from your own website, or use another platform? Anything you might have done differently when you first started?
