Little delicate (or not so?) canaries love to bathe in cold water -- the colder the better.  Ice water!!
Uranium was named after the newly-discovered planet Uranus. Later elements Neptunium and Plutonium followed the same naming pattern.

Though Pluto later lost full planetary status, there has been no move to demote Plutonium.

Turkey buzzards get car sick.

This from a falconer in Atlanta, Ga. She was transporting a turkey buzzard to a school for a birds of prey education appearance. So apparently, it yarked in her car. I don't even want to think about how she got the smell out.
"The Rüppell's Griffon Vulture is currently on record as the highest-flying bird ever, one of these birds collided with an airplane flying at an altitude of 37000 feet! This bird can soar for hours on end, searching out fresh carcasses."

So this clever bird flies at 37,000', collides with airplanes to drag out the fresh passenger carcasses ?? giggle
That is a very cool looking vulture!

The Arctic Tern flies from his home ground near the Arctic to breeding grounds in Antarctica every year.  One Arctic Tern, banded as a chick, left Great Britain in summer 1982 and reached Australia in about 3 months (that's about 14,000 miles).  One of the longest journeys ever recorded for a bird.  (credit to Wikipedia)

I watched these dudes when I lived on a lake on the Oregon Coast one year.  They were fishing madly, and then went on their way.  These guys were SERIOUS.
The Government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. But $160,140 isn't so bad if you break it down; it translates into $8,896.66 a year, $741.38 a month, or $171.08 a week. That's a mere $24.24 a day! Just $1.01 an hour.

While he wrote most of the songs he performed, Michael Jackson did not write one of his biggest hits, and one of the songs he's most identified with, Thriller. Barry Manilow, who also wrote most of his songs, did not write I Write the Songs.

I'm going to start charging my kids! Or at least give them a bill when they leave.
Cue the explosive laughter.
Hummingbirds do not have legs, just feet.  A hummingbird egg is the size of a pea.
Many hummingbirds use spider silk to hold their nest materials together so that the nest can expand as the babies grow. Hummingbird egg size depends on the species as does the length of their legs. Very small leg bands are used when banding hummingbirds.
During a Civil War battle, General John Sedgewick's unit was pinned down by long-range Confederate sniper fire.  He got up and was trying to rally his men.  He exhorted his men "They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance."  Those were his last words, seconds later he was struck in the face with a bullet and fell down dead.

I bet some of his men laughed.

Because, well, that's what guys do.
A Googol is a number equal to a 1 followed by 100 zeros.

A Googolplex is a number equal to 1 followed by a googol zeros.

If you wrote a googolplex on a cash register tape, and wadded it into a ball, the ball wouldn't fit into the known universe.

Also, if you wrote that googolplex at the speed of two numbers per second, it would take you longer than the age of the universe to complete it.
