Random House responds......

I wrote to them complaining that books one and three of Terry Brooks' Landover trilogy are available from Amazon in Kindle format, but not book two (how annoying is that?  I forgot all about this series until someone mentioned it on the KindleBoards book site.)  I checked with Random House, and they do have book two in ebook format on their site.  This was the response:

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for contacting Random House and for your interest in our publications.

All eBooks that we produce are available to Amazon for conversion to their proprietary Kindle format.  If the book you are looking for is available as an eBook on our website you should contact Amazon and request that they make it available to you.

Random House Consumer Services

So sometimes it's NOT the publisher, but Amazon who is not making books available.  VERY annoying!

Very bummed--most of the ones I want are DAW

What does DAW mean?
Dog + Author = Werewolf?

I wouldn't take the Random House's word for it without further confirmation. That person may be misinformed or trying to deflect blame.

Hmmm.....interesting response. Wonder how much is legit?  :-\
I'd noticed that about the Landover books too.  It's a darned shame, especially since I'd always thought #2 was by lengths the best of the series!
Isn't it odd -- everyone blames each other -- the losers -- readers.  Reminds me of politics.

Is the book you want...book no. 2 of this series...available as an ebook on their website?

I have noticed before that the Kindle edition of a book is available on a publishers website before it becomes available on Amazon.  If a book come out say on the 1st it will be available as the Kindle edition on that day at the publishers site and then won't show up on Amazon until anywhere from 2 to 14+ days later.  Many times it will show up on the Amazon site with the publication date but be "sign up to be notified when this item becomes available", which we all know doesn't work.  So I do think that Amazon has trouble posting the Kindleized books they get from the publishers in a timely fashion.  On the plus side for Amazon it keeps me coming back to check for the book.  Makes me wonder if Amazon has enough people working on the Kindle side.  Perhaps they didn't anticipate the number of books that would be published for the Kindle. :)

Go to Terry Brooks' website and contact him through there.  Chances are it's an oversight.  "The Druid of Shannara" was missing from the Heritage of Shannara Tetrology.  I originally contacted Amazon and got a form letter reply, so I went to Terry Brooks' website and contacted him/his staff directly and it became available within a 1-2 months.  It may have been confused with another book with a similar title and was never released.  I think Terry Brooks' and his staff are really interested in getting all his books into electronic format!  Nothing to lose but some time anyway :)

Sounds like instead of submitting it to Amazon in Kindle format, they expect Amazon to come to them and convert it themselves....
