How do I get to page one without backing up page by page?

Press Menu --> Go To, then choose either 'the beginning' or a specific location number.

To learn how to do the basics on your Kindle, you can download the User's Guide, which has lots of useful information.

I like to "Go To" the cover if that's an option. . . .sometimes what the publisher has defined as 'the beginning' leaves out a prologue or other info that is useful to look at first. :)
Entirely agree, "Go To"..."Cover" every time for me, I always like the first few pages of a book (the title pages, the "by this author", the dedication...) to get me settled into starting a new book, the Kindle approach of dropping you onto the first page always feels slightly abrupt to me.

Sometimes there are maps up there in those "frontispiece" pages which are useful to look at later.
Agree too - I've suggested that the books open to the cover in the improvements to Kindle thread.  And when I finish reading a book, I will usually go ahead & reset it to the cover at that point - although of course then on the book list menu it looks like I haven't read the book!

Thank you, Ann, and everyone else who mentioned "cover" as the go to point. I had been using TOC and just realized what I've been missing. (I really hadn't noticed cover being a go to option, to be honest). Great tip!

Well. . .it isn't always. . . .but when it is that's where I start. If it's not, I "Go To" location #1. :D
