Hi,
so something new in marketing option horizon... Twitch.tv is a big live streaming platform, right now super popular with gamers. BUT the live streaming movement is growing and maturing, which means more and more people will watch these and the topics will expand. Which is where this is useful for indies.
There are people already reading/listening to books on Twitch!

Literally, just live reading books with people watching or just listening while they do other stuff.
Which means, any author can go in a create a channel for themselves and read books to build a community of readers. Maybe platform isn't full of readers yet, but as we know already, platforms mature from niche to general market - as we've seen with Facebook and Instagram (from youngsters only to world-dominating all-ages-encompassing).
Now, reading full books daily there is probably not a good idea (I don't think most authors would want their books to be read for free there fully), but imagine a channel which is a book club. Few times a week, someone reads a little snippet from a book from a genre and spotlights the book. Doesn't read it fully, just some chapter and then encourages people to read it on their own. They could also review books on there, comment and chat with viewers about it. Which makes a great community. OBVIOUSLY, just to spell it out, don't break copyrights. Getting approval for reading parts would be best.
I can totally see genre specific channels having tens of thousands of subscribers BUT even those aren't necessary, a person doesn't need to be Twitch member to view streams. It's free so anyone can be sent there from your emails, Facebook, Instagram or website or your ads.
People love audiobooks, this is similar. Just with more interactions and community.
I wouldn't be so selfish as to only read your own books there. Even with a huge back catalog, you can't give away all your books this way. BUT, it's totally possible to have separate days for separate reading, different genre, different books on a day etc. You can read your own books there once in a while to drum up interest and promote it that way. But main promotion would come from becoming a trusted voice in your genre and getting readers to your channel, they would at first read or listen to other books, but then would check out yours as they get to know you. Indirect approach is best.
What do you think? Anyone willing to try? Anyone already trying?
