Rebranding a series

Let's get this out of the way: I like my current covers. I wouldn't release a book under them if I didn't. That being said, I've known for quite some time that my covers might be pretty good for individual/standalone books, but they kind of stink when it comes to identifying myself as a series. Fixing that has been on my back-burner for a while now, but the reality of the situation is that I do well in my genre, but I want to do better - and one aspect better selling series than mine have is that brand cohesion that I lack.

So working with my cover artist, this is the new direction we're taking the series - subsequent covers to contain similar branding.

Gotta say, this is equal parts terrifying and exciting. The old cover for this book has brought me a lot of readers. That being said, I also have plenty of reviews stating they tried the series *despite* the cover so that tells me there are plenty who have passed up my books because of it.

Like I said: exciting and terrifying. Can't wait to see how this all turns out.

I like it! I wasn't a fan of the old cover, but I really liked the book. I'm sure you'll do really well with these.

Good luck!
I recently did the same thing, Rick. It was a little scary but the response was very positive. That series branding is critical, and I LOVE your new cover.
I like the cover, but it looks like it is targeting young adults, if not younger readers. I only mention that because looking at the listing on Amazon, it looks like your intended audience might be older.
I appreciate the feedback, everyone.

That's definitely a concern for me, David.  Been working with my artist to maintain the integrity of this feel, but grit it up enough so it doesn't have a YA vibe.
That tag line on the new cover is absolutely brilliant. :D
I just did a major rebranding my YA PNR series and within 2 weeks, my sales doubled. I do think book covers do help to sell books. ;-)
I am currently wrestling with this too. I love the new cover! I like it much better than the current one.
Seems like cover rebranding is in the air. Maybe it's spring?

The hills are alive with the sound of...err...new covers? ;)
Did you fling your arms out wide and spin while you sang that? Gotta do that.
Changing covers is something I'm familiar with (gonna be changing my Shade City cover soon too).

I think you're spot on with your needs. I didn't immediately realize you wrote in a series either. I can see how changing can be scary when you already have success, but I think not sitting on your laurels is the right thing to do. Let us know how it works out.

Will do, thanks!
