I have noticed that my Kindle Paperwhite ereaders that use the 5.12.3 version of the firmware have their batteries drained much faster than my other Kindle Paperwhite ereaders that use the 5.11.2 version. So I want to revert the ones that use 5.12.3 back to using 5.11.2. When I tried the method of copying

update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_v2_5.11.2

to the root directory of one of the Kindle Paperwhites having 5.12.3 firmware, I got a message that said that I had tried to make an invalid update, and the device simply erased the 5.11.2 file from the root directory.

So. The easy method doesn't work. What do I do instead to make this Kindle Paperwhite accept the 5.11.2 OS?

To the best of my knowledge, it isn't possible to reverse an update.

Even resetting to factory defaults won't do it - and even if you could, unless you jailbreak it somehow, you wouldn't be able to switch on the wi-fi to download books in case the new update reapplied itself.
