A slice of dark #fantasy: Major Arcana XII: The Hanged Man http://bit.ly/juV3HH #SampleSunday #SS #IAN1 @dreyfusstrilogy

Have fun people. I'm off to bed. :)

-----

#SampleSunday is a twitter event, to share reading samples between writers (and readers). For a full explanation, read this: http://bit.ly/dF8SHf Place your sample, in a message that is less than 140 characters long. Sample it on Twitter, if you are unsure. If you wish to see all tweets on your behalf, add your own twitter ID. Messages need to ELL:

1) Entice
2) Link - to your url
3) List - add your genre etc. through a hashtag #romance #horror #thriller etc

Links can be shortened via tiny url http://tinyurl.com/l or through tweetdeck (or hootsuite). You have to add the hastag #SampleSunday or #SS. #SS is used for other things, so #SampleSunday may be your best choice. Hit both, and read for yourself how each list reads. Some authors put both in. Retweets will add a few characters, so try and leave the message short - 130ish.

#SampleSunday, and tweeting, can be problematic for those new to the forum. For a long discussion of the pros and cons, please read this thread - Does Tweeting Work For You:

kindle.boards http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,55850.0/topicseen.html

People will not generally tweet your link unless it is a proper tweet. Just giving a URL and short description will likely leave your link untweeted. :)

It's Sunday in Stockholm!

In fact, it's 2:35 a.m. and the sun is coming up. Plays with your mind.

The last two SampleSunday's have been a disaster for me, so I did a complete revamp of my whole Sample Sunday approach. New sample, new arm-twisting blurb, better tweet.

#SampleSunday @DavidGaughran Linus Eriksson is a man with a memory problem: nobody can remember him http://bit.ly/LinusE pls RT

A word of advice to those joining. You are far more likely to get other people to people to send you tweets if you write them as proper tweets. That means, like above, less than 140 characters. (In fact, it's best to leave a few extra characters spare for people who like to manual re-tweet.)

I recommend that you include your Twitter name so that you can pick up some followers. I also recommend that you use a URL shortening service like http://bit.ly which will turn your length blog address like this http://davidgaughran.wordpress.com/2011/05/08/sample-sunday-if-you-go-into-the-woods-by-david-gaughran/ into this http://bit.ly/LinusE.

I'm off to bed. Happy Sampling!

Dave

Last week, I had 450 hits on my site, so I'm doing it this Sunday as well. I don't have one tweet, I have 13 - something for everyone: Crime (The Adulteress, The Blue Butterfly, The Skulls Beneath Eternity Wharf (Quigg 3), The Flesh is Weak (Parish & Richards 3), The Threshold of Eternity); Horror (Homeward Bound), Historical (A Blood-Soaked Land, Fight or Die, Lovey Heart & the Whitechapel Murders), SciFi (The Arrow of Time, The Timekeeper's Apprentice (YA), War Without End (Military SciFi YA)); Humour (The Village). I write a lot!

Well, I just woke up and I have had more hits on my sample than I did for all of Sunday last week. Looks like new sample/blurb/tweet is doing the trick.

This readers always seem to notice if you try and cram any stale bread in their ever-hungry maw!

Starting tweeting all you now.
