Hi, My name is Brenda, self-confessed techno-geek. After drooling over the Kindles since they first came out, I finally made the decision. As soon as my paycheck hits the bank on Friday, I'm taking the plunge. I found this site last night, and I've spent the whole morning here. Oh, the decisions! To skin or not to skin? Case or sleeve? Not to mention browsing through all the free books available.

I thought this was going to be so simple...just buy the Kindle, load up the books, and go.

But, now...I'm trying to coordinate my skin and cover...and while I'm at it, maybe I should get a skin for my iPhone so it can all be coordinated...but, can I get a very small bag that has pockets that are just the right size for my Kindle and my iPhone both? But, it's got to match the skins...

Life is so complicated...and I love it!

Welcome Brenda, glad to have you here. Are you getting the K2 or the DX?

As for skins and covers....prepare to be enabled. Any chance you need a rice cooker, too? Or a KitchenAid mixer?

Hugh welcomes you, too!

Welcome to the board.

I'll layout a step by step plan:

  • Buy a Kindle (Kindle 2 or DX)
  • Buy some books
  • Pick a skin
  • Pick a cover

;) :)

Here's the 12-step program, courtesy of Betsy:

Here's the 12-step program:

Step one:     Buy a Kindle
Step two:     Join Kindleboards
Step three:   Buy a skin.
Step four:     Buy a second skin
Step five:     Buy an Oberon cover (or M edge or....)
Step six:       Buy a light (MightyBrite, Lightwedge...)
Step seven:   Buy the perfect bag, tote, briefcase, knapsack
Step eight:   Buy a second Oberon cover
Step nine:     Buy a case to put the cover in
Step ten:     Buy a second Kindle
Step eleven:  Buy another perfect bag, tote, briefcase, knapsack
Step twelve:  Give up counting your Kindle accessories

I'm not sure they all have to be done in order, though. :D

Betsy's 12 step needs to be expanded though:

Step 13:  Begin accessorizing all other electronics in the house (iPhones, laptops, etc.)
Step 14:  Discover Tea, Coffee, Rice Maker, and Stand Mixer threads in Not Quite Kindle.  Begin accessorizing meals.

:D  (again, these steps may be done in any order!)

Welcome, Brenda--sounds like you'll fit in just fine!!!

Welcome to the Boards. Oh what an open ended question to ask here.
The first thing you have to do is check the status of delivery incessantly. Then stalk the UPS guy. Once you get the box, you open it, play with it a bit, then log back onto the Boards and tell us how absolutely fabulous it is. Then you skin it, cover it, and bag it. And of course, you have to take pictures of it in all its new glory and post those. Then you hack the K2 and download a ton of screensavers. OMG, I forgot about a name. You have to name it. If you can't think of one, ask here. Someone will be able to supply an appropriate name once you've determined whether its male or female.
Next, you log onto the Boards every morning, tell us the temperature of where you live and what you plan to do for the day. Share a good recipe that will add five pounds and make us drool. Post pictures of your kitchen appliances, and tell us all of your funny stories. Inform us of every good book that you read, and bad book too for that matter. Join a book klub. Increase your post count. And last but not least, find all the eggs before next weekend.
Hope I haven't overwhelmed you.
Welcome, and get busy.

This was posted not long after the K2 was launched, and obviously before Easter. If you're going to stick around here you have some responsibilities, i.e. follow the 12-plus-step program. If you're really good you'll become an enabler. Doesn't matter too much what you enable, as long as it's legal of course. You'll find we love to talk about a whole bunch of stuff, and we love each other's opinions.

Today's enabling is chocolate.

Have fun here. We do.

Thanks for that. You just reminded me to go eat a Lindt truffle. Perfect end to a delicious lunch made by my husband.

I think I'm on 7, but I skipped 4, and I also did 11.  I'm hoping to do 10 soon. . . . .just haven't worked out what "soon" means yet.  :D

My 12-step program (which was way more than 12 steps) was slightly different:

1. Order Kindle and prepare to wait a month for it to arrive.
2. Join KindleBoards, which is very quiet (April 08)
3. Hang out at the Amazon forum.
4. Celebrate Kindle arrival.
5. Get so excited about the Kindle, immediately buy one for son and daughter.
6. Start FAQ.
7. Order a few M-edge covers.
8. Turn FAQ into a book.
9. Go back to KindleBoards and invite 200 of my closest Kindle friends (from Amazon) to join. This time, the party takes off.
10. Get enabled. Buy skins and Oberon covers.
11. Get spammed at Amazon. Declare war on Mikey the Rhino and Carl the Pipefitter.
12. Continue to maintain the FAQ.
13. Order Kindle2 a week before the press conference. Wait impatiently for its arrival.
14. Order more skins and covers for new K2.
15. Buy a used K1 to give to my niece for her birthday -- 3 months early!
16. Because my old K1 is lonely, buy a new skin for him.
17. Immediately after buying new skin for old K1, give it to my sister for her birthday.
18. Order DX during the press conference. Wait impatiently for its arrival.
19. Buy a used Oberon cover for K2 from someone on the board. Why...no real reason, I just wanted to.
20. Wait impatiently for Oberon and DecalGirl to announce covers and skins for the DX.

and so it goes...

and somewhere in there, also buy a KitchenAid Mixer and a rice cooker. I resisted the ice cream maker, though.

Hi, everybody. Thanks for the warm welcome. I think I've found a new home! It's always nice to find a place where people have the same obsessions you do.

My husband dragged me away from my electronics for the afternoon, and I spent most of the time in the movie thinking about designing the perfect bag with just the right compartments. Now, to try to talk my mom into making one for me.

I've narrowed it down to about 5 skins. Now to spend the next hour (or more) making the decision...
