Series prequel numbering

For my novel series I've written 2 short stories appr. 8-10k words each. My thoughts are to use them as lead ins to the novel but my actual question is how to note them on amazon in relation to the series.

Obviously, my first book is # 1 in the series numbering system but how do I sequence the prequels? I have seen a prequel noted as "0" and I have also seen ".1", ".2", ".3" etc.

Are there any specific guidelines or "best practices" when publishing prequels?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts. :)

You could call it something like "[Novel Series]: The Prequel Series" or since they're short, you could collect them as one title and put it at 0.
I would want it clear that they were prequels. I don't think I'd number them.

It would be on the cover (a Saints of Wura prequel) as well as in the description noting it was a prequel.

My reasoning for wanting to number it is so that if you click on the "series" link on Amazon, it would show the prequels AND the novels. I could see how this might be problematic...

The sequels themselves are all standalone stories that serve to enrich the novels as well as explain the histories mentioned throughout the trilogy.
