Shadow Born: a New Adult Urban Fantasy Novel (Shadows of Salem Book 1), by Jasmine Walt and Rebecca Hamilton

"I was really taken with this first book in a hopefully long series. The book was well-written, had a terrific plot, and the major characters were very engaging. I especially liked Brooke: she was tough, yet had a softer, more tender side that came out when needed. The reader could really feel her sadness over the death of her fiance. There was plenty of action, and the plot moved along so swiftly, you were at the end without realizing it, a mark of a good book. I really didn't want it to end and really want to read the next one. There wasn't much romance, as there shouldn't be as Brooke had recently lost her fiance. But the makings of an excellent romance are there, and I can't wait to see the fireworks when they do get together! I found the book similar to Nalini Singh's Archangel series, Yasmine Galenorn's Otherworld series, and Kim Harrison's Hollows series. I highly recommend this book; it is so worth it!" -- Amazon Reviewer

Chicago Police Detective Brooke Chandler is keeping a secret... and if she's not careful, it could get her killed.

Brooke is no stranger to the supernatural. In Chicago, vampires are just as prevalent as drug lords, and infinitely more bloodthirsty. So when her partner and fiancé dies in a mysterious fire while chasing down a lead in Salem, she suspects something dark and otherworldly is at play.

Blessed with the ability to see into the past by touching inanimate objects, Brooke transfers to the Salem PD, hoping her talent will help her get to the bottom of things. Between dodging assassination attempts and being stonewalled at every turn, the going is tough. Add in a mysterious fae club owner with secrets of his own and a personal grudge against her, and it becomes nearly impossible.

If Brooke wants to play in the supernatural sandbox, she's going to have to roll up her sleeves and get dirty. But how many people will have to die for Brooke to discover the truth about her fiance? And is she even ready to know?

Meet the Authors

NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY Bestselling Author Jasmine Walt is obsessed with books, chocolate, and sharp, pointy objects. Somehow, those three things melded together in her head and transformed into a desire to write. Usually fantastical stuff, with a healthy dose of action and romance. Her characters are a little (okay, a lot) on the snarky side, and they swear, but they mean well. Even the villains sometimes. When Jasmine isn't working on her next book, you can find her practicing her dao sword form, spending time with her family, or binge-watching superhero shows on Netflix. She loves to hear from her readers, so if you've got a question or just want to say hi, feel free to contact her via her website at www.jasminewalt.com.

New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Hamilton lives in Georgia with her husband and four kids, all of whom inspire her writing.
