Silk issues this weekend

Anyone else?

Finally got KB to come up and not get an error message or restart.  Mini ipad working fine so don't think it is an issue with our wifi.  And the tabs for web pages I had open all say Webpage not found.

Silk is problematic.  Amazon really needs to improve it.  You might try clearing the cache in Silk...back in a sec with the steps...

Go to the browser.

Tap on the menu button on the side/bottom menu bar.

Tap on clear cache.  You could also tap on clear history.

See if that helps.

If it doesn't, clear the history and the cache again and then restart the device.

Agree with Betsy.  Clearing the cache should just wipe out stray glitchy electrons.  Clear history will do much the same thing as it would do on a computer browser -- you can't select a site, any more, from the drop down list.  Not sure if it'll wipe out bookmarks or not. :-\

Like Betsy, I think it could do with some improvement. I find that it doesn't work the way I expect it to on some sites.  Like, if I'm on KB, I want the 'previous' link to take me to the previous thread and to the newest post in that thread as it does on my computer.  Silk doesn't. It takes me to the previous thread, but the top of the current page, not the most recent post.

So for KB browsing I've been using Chrome, which I got from 1Mobile.  And a nice feature of it is that if you tap an area and there are several possible links you could have tapped, it zooms to a bigger size just in that area so you can more easily tap the correct link.

That said, Chrome does weird things with FB -- not going back to FB home (my news feed) when I've clicked through my 'world' notifications. (I call it that because the icon is a little globe -- it's the close friends posts and posts where I've been active).  So I actually use Silk for that; or just the mobile app.

Thanks for the info and clear directions.  I cleared both and I'll see if things improve.  I have had this Fire since early December and the first time I had this happen.  I never had it happen with the original Fire but that was so sluggish searching the web that I didn't use it that often.

No, it won't clear out bookmarks.

You might want to try turning off accelerated page loading. Depending on what sites you are browsing this can help quite a bit with quirkiness and slow loading. Accelerated page loading uses an Amazon server as a proxy. The theory is that it should speed up your web browsing but some times it just causes problems for various reasons. You can find and turn off this feature in the Silk settings. If you are using a Kindle Fire HD you also might want to try turning off  "Enable accelerated links" as well.
