Readers have called this collection "fascinatingly disturbing" and "a great way to spend the afternoon reading."

SKIN: Collected Stories

This collection is built around a common theme of "skin" and it crosses genres. This updated version now weighs in at 12,500 words.

The Tanner: A social outcast, Ari spends his days honing his craft. He is a Taxidermist, a Tanner, and quite possibly a Madman. One sweltering day, he takes his art to a new level by creating unique leather goods using the most exotic medium- Human Skin. *Warning- this story is graphic and contains brief nudity/ themes not suitable for children!

The Terminal: A short work of fiction about the reality of aging, as told by the observant nursing assistant who spends 8 hours a day watching skin turn to paper.

The Tattooist: A unique short featuring the main character of my current almost-completed novel. Claire has been through a series of major life changes while attending a business conference in Orlando. On her last night in the steamy city, Claire goes in search of something to remember the time by- a tattoo. Little does she know, her journey of self-discovery isn't quite over yet.

Welcome to KindleBoards, Alex, and congratulations on your book!

(If you've gotten this welcome before, it's just as a matter of housekeeping. We like to put a copy of the "welcome letter" in each book thread. It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, it just helps us know that you know the rules.)

A brief recap of our rules follows:

--We invite you to use your book cover as your avatar and have links to your book and website in your signature. Instructions are posted here

--Please bookmark this thread (using your browser's bookmark/favorite function) so you can update it as we ask that authors have only one thread per book and add to it when there is more information. You may start a separate thread for each book (or you may have one thread per series of books, or one thread for all of your books, it's your choice).

--While you may respond to member posts to your thread at any time, you may only bump your thread (back-to-back posts by you) once every seven days. Once you've responded to a member, that resets the clock to zero and you must wait seven days to post, unless another member posts before then.

--We ask that Amazon reviews not be repeated here as they are easy to find at your book link. Also, full reviews from other sites should not be posted here, but you may post a short blurb and a link to the full review instead.

--Although self-promotion is limited to the Book Bazaar, our most successful authors have found the best way to promote their books is to be as active throughout KindleBoards as time allows. This is your target audience--book lovers with Kindles! Please note that putting link information in the body of your posts constitutes self promotion; please leave your links for your profile signature that will automatically appear on each post. For information on more ways to promote here on KindleBoards, be sure to check out this thread:
Authors: KindleBoards Tips & FAQ.

All this, and more, is included in our Forum Decorum. Be sure to check it from time to time for the current guidelines and rules.

Oh, and one more thing: be sure to check out the index threads at the top of the Book Bazaar. . . .there are details there about how you can be listed so that our readers can find you.

Thanks for being part of KindleBoards! Feel free to send us a PM if you have any questions.

Several good reviews have come in on this collection and I wanted to share  ;D

"I predict great success for Alex Owens, a genuine storyteller in the best traditions of the art form." - Karen Wodke, on SKIN --LibraryThing.com

"The reader will like the descriptive way the author writes as well as the succinct manner... Some of the stories may be a little gross... there is a story in this novel for every adult reader." - Krystal at GoodReads.com --Goodreads.com

Just had to share...another 4-star review on Goodreads!

"Well written book with dark twisty tales. I recommend this book."

And another good one on LibraryThing:

"Short stories, all connected by a common theme - skin. The stories are well written and the intricate details allow the reader to picture the stories as they unfold."

Happy Weekend all! Thought I'd pop in to give you an excerpt of the short story The Tanner, from SKIN.
Out of the three stories, this is most fitting to the horror genre.

Death is a certainty, settled. Everyday, Ari touches death, caresses it and makes it his own. His one regret is that upon his death, he won't be around to dig around under his own skin. To tease the muscle from bone, to trace the linear perfections of tendons, ligaments, and arteries through their course.

It's almost FREE! And I gave her a new cover just for the party. Hope you all like it!

I've been waiting up for Skin to go free on Amazon, only I live on the east coast and apparently Az is on Pacific time
Hopefully the book will convert to free in the next little bit and the frenzy can begin!

But I can't wait up for it. So I'm off to bed. Hope you all have a great rest-of-the-night!

I just want to thank the many, many readers who downloaded this collection when it was free on Amazon a few weeks ago. You may not realize it, but the number of free downloads correlates to better sales later on, so every Free download does help the authors. So thank you all for helping out!

What Readers are saying about SKIN:

He's like a serial killer in the making. I wanted more of this one. It was quite graphic and I loved it. - Amazon review

All in all the shorts were well written and were very entertaining. Amazon Review

I was a little disturbed by the "The Tanner" and where that obsession went and the process the tanner took to get there. The Tattooist, was interesting and got me excited for the upcoming novel Blood Chord. The Terminal was well written and gave insight into how those in the medical profession really feel.
