When you start selling well it becomes a nuisance.
I'd have to agree with this. I don't sell that many at SW, but at Amazon I do so this would create a lot of trouble for me navigating my inbox.

But yes, it is very cool.

I would hate if Amazon did it. It would just stress me out. I'd start to think "oh my gosh, it's been 5 minutes, 10 minutes, an hour, 2 hours since my last sale! Am I ever going to sell anything ever again?!"

Whereas on Smashwords, I sell so few (like less than 1/200 what I sell on Amazon) that it doesn't matter. I get the email and I'm like "oh, huh."

And if I ever started selling a huge number of books (I wish I had that problem!), it would get very annoying to get flooded with emails.

Seriously, this way madness lies.

I think that's really great and only wish Amazon would do that too.
I'd hate for Amazon to do it, unless there was some way to opt out if you don't want to receive the notices. I have so many emails to sort through already, this would just be something else for me to have to delete. I don't mind the SmashWord notifications so much because they're so rare.

If amazon ever started doing it, the solution would be to create a rule/filter in your mail program to move all those mails into a folder.

Did you know that Smashwords sends you an email the moment someone purchases your book? I think that's really great and only wish Amazon would do that too.
When it becomes annoying, you can turn it off
