I wrote a book. Like the rest of you. So what do I do to get it to stand out? Will this guy 8) help?

I'm not sure. I can tell you that it's a great read for a lazy Sunday-or any other day for that matter. So please, pick one up, leave comments/reviews, just don't leave me talking to myself every 7 days on here. Winky face. Details below...

Life Behind: a memoir from the open road through the Wild West

Ever wanted to just pick up and go? So what stopped you?

In the late spring of 2008, suddenly devoid of my job, my long-term girlfriend, and quite possibly my faith in humanity, I took to the road as a form of self-prescribed therapy.

Equipped only with what I could fit in the back of my small SUV, I made my way across 3,800 miles of the beautiful West and Pacific Northwest, sleeping mostly in my truck, fly fishing, and communing with both nature and locals alike. My trials along the way ranged from such trivial things as cavorting with small-town girls or figuring out where my next shower would come from, to the much more profound issues of dealing with lost love and coming to terms with the fact that sooner or later, like it or not, I was going to have to "grow up."

This memoir is a recount of my search for the sort of elusive guidance that can only be found in clear high mountain trout streams and at the bottom of craft beers in smoky dive bars.

DOING SOME GOOD

To give a little back to the beautiful places that inspired me along the way, I've chosen to donate some of the proceeds from these sales to NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council).

I hope you'll take a moment to take further action at http://www.nrdc.org/action/ to protect imperiled wildlands and consider supporting them as well. Thank you!

Welcome to KindleBoards and congratulations on your book!

KindleBoards is a Kindle fan and reader forum. As you browse KindleBoards, keep in mind that self-promotion, of any sort, is ONLY allowed in the Book Bazaar. (You've posted your book thread in the right place; this is just our standard welcome that we place in all book threads. :))

A brief recap of our rules follows:

--Please bookmark this thread (using your browser's bookmark/favorite function) so you can update it as we ask that authors have only one thread per book and add to it when there is more information. You may start a separate thread for each book (or you may have one thread per series of books, or one thread for all of your books, it's your choice).

--We invite you to use your book cover as your avatar and have links to your book and website in your signature. Instructions are posted here

--While you may respond to member posts to your thread at any time, you may only bump your thread (back-to-back posts by you) once every seven days. Once you've responded to a member, that resets the clock to zero and you must wait seven days to post, unless another member posts before then. You may modify the latest post to reflect new information.

--We ask that Amazon reviews not be repeated here as they are easy to find at your book link. Also, full reviews from other sites should not be posted here, but you may post a short blurb and a link to the full review instead.

--Although self-promotion is limited to the Book Bazaar, our most successful authors have found the best way to promote their books is to be as active throughout KindleBoards as time allows. This is your target audience--book lovers with Kindles! Please note that putting link information in the body of your posts outside the Book Bazaar constitutes self promotion; please leave your links for your profile signature that will automatically appear on each post. For information on more ways to promote here on KindleBoards, be sure to check out this thread: Authors: KindleBoards Tips & FAQ.

All this, and more, is included in our Forum Decorum: http://www.kboards.com/index.php/topic,36.0.html. Be sure to check it from time to time for the current guidelines and rules.

Thanks for being part of KindleBoards! Feel free to send us a PM if you have any questions.

So here I am talking to myself a week later! To be expected, I suppose.

Since publishing 9 days ago I have had over 50 sales and 3 reviews. Not too shabby considering I've done minimal promotion, but could be better. So give it a look and take a chance:

It's a story of one man, his mind and the open road. Like Jack Kerouac, only much less famous.

Regan,

Your book sounds a lot like one of my favorite novels, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenence." I'm new here and wondering if you feel like your post is working. I've had some minor sucess here at the begining, but I'm trying to work my novel up from 165,000. I will bump your book and give it a read. My novel, A Handyman's Guide to Paranormal Events is free to borrow and free for Amazon/Kindle direct customers. Good luck to you. I hope you sell thousands.

Sincerely,

Matthew J Baffoe

Thanks Matthew, for my first sign of life on the other end!

I'm pretty new as well, but can't imagine that these posts are generating much interest or, more importantly, click throughs to my Kindle page and eventual purchases. Until now at least. So I appreciate you giving it a shot!  I'll gladly return the favor.

I do plan on becoming more a part of the discussion on Kindleboards, Goodreads and other such sites. I think that will generate a lot more interest in my work then just straight promo posts. I've just been too busy with my day job to get that ball rolling.

Thanks again!

Added some content to my Facebook page this week: https://www.facebook.com/lifebehind

Looking for my first editorial review now. If anyone has a reco for someone who might be interested in reviewing a road travel memoir, please pass them my way. Thanks!

Have a blog, a Facebook author page, a Goodreads page. I have 11 positive reviews and have sent my book to a handful of editorial reviewers. My friends/family sales have all but dried up, so it's time for the second leg of marketing.

Was going to start with a few interest forums in line with my subject matter, then move on to some free and even paid book promo sites. In a week or two I also plan on doing a .99 Kindle sale and promoting it aggressively.

ANY OTHER IDEAS?
