I always like it when others post actual numbers for their promos, so I thought I'd do the same.
Feels Like the First Time was ENT's BOTD yesterday. When I made my submission to Greg, I had to decide between going for the greater number of downloads (by pricing at .99) or trying to make more money (2.99.) Ultimately, I went with trying to make more money by pricing it at $2.99.
The book had not had any promo juice in almost two months and so the average daily sales had fallen down into the 4-5 per day range and was ranked in the mid 20,000's on Amazon.
I needed to sell around 75 books to pay for the ad and had that in the books by mid-afternoon. This morning I woke up to see that I had sold a little over 200 copies in the last 24 hours. Obviously, the ad paid for itself plus a lot. I am still seeing residual sales this morning. The overall ranking jumped up into the 800s. Also, my blog traffic jumped, I added about ten new folks to my FB page and got half a dozen new sign ups for my mailing list.
The only additional thing I did yesterday was to post it on my FB page and ask people to share ENT's BOTD status for me. That was pretty successful, as it was shared 51 times yesterday. I'm sure this helped.
I know I could have moved a lot more copies if I had dropped it down to .99, but I was curious what I could accomplish promoting at the higher price point. I'm hoping this will be a data point for other writers that are considering the same strategy.
