Spiritual fiction

I am looking for spiritually motivated fiction (or really interesting nonfiction) which does not have a Christian slant to it. I've tried looking in the Kindle Store, but that kind of stuff is not really labeled, if it's there. Mostly I've found books about the Law of Attraction, books by the Dalai Lama, and Christian fiction, and none of that is what I want.

I'd also appreciate recommendations on adventure books such as books about climbing mountains, exploring caves, exploring ship wrecks, exploring frozen wastelands, etc.

Hi, Nebulinda -

There is a really great series of books out by an author that features a National Forest Service Parks ranger and the series/mysteries she finds herself in. Dang, I can't remember it now when I want to. ** I remembered - they are by Nevada Barr and the main character is Anna Pigeon** It's very good, and the action of each book takes place in different areas of the U.S. One takes place in a cavern exploration and another one is centered in Manhattan next to the Statue of Liberty.

Here is the first book of that series. Unfortunately :-\ there is no Kindle edition

You might also try Dan Millman's "Peaceful Warrior" books. This blurb taken from his website [http://www.danmillman.com] gives you an idea of the philosophy behind the books:

The Purpose: Evolution

The Arena: Daily Life

The Time: Now

The Method: Action

It begins on the ground.

It starts where you are.

It works at every level.

I believe the book below is the first one that Dan Millman wrote. Again, like the Barr books, it is not available on the Kindle. It's been out for many years and you are very likely to find a good used edition with a different cover if you'd like.

Both are worth checking out ;D

Marci, I read Way of the Peaceful Warrior a few years ago and thought it was okay. I liked the spiritualism and the message but something about the plot or the way it was written just didn't grip me. Though I searched and a book by Dan Millman about Socrates is on the Kindle, so I downloaded a sample of that.

And jmiked, I also downloaded a sample of Shadow Divers. It looks really interesting.

Shadow Divers was made into a PBS Nova special several years ago.... It's available from Netflix and the like. It's titled Hitler's Lost Sub.
Shadow Divers is excellent. I read it a few years ago. I'm not sure it would have ever entered my head to classify it as spiritual fiction since I'm not sure what is spiritual about it and it is a true story, not fiction.

LOL, Leslie. I guess I should have titled this thread "Spiritual fiction and true adventure stories."

Right! Got it now. Anyway, Shadow Divers is really good.

For adventure, the Dirk Pitt series by Clive Cussler is very good.  I just read the latest one.

I haven't read his other books (yet), but those who have agree that they're as good as the Dirk Pitt ones.

Sharyn
Jannette Oke's 'Love Comes Softly' Series. I have watched the movies and they now have her books for the Kindle. You might like them.
