I'm reading my first Stephen Hunter book, Black Light, and I have to say I'm completely impressed with Stephen Hunter's writing. Fluid, clear voice, great characters, solid dialogue that is specific to the characters as opposed to homogenized (typical and drearily common failing), fascinating story, smooth tempo.

Very impressed.

Other than Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon books, Hunter's the first thriller writer I've come across in several years that has impressed me this much. Looking forward to finishing and looking forward to reading his other books.

However, I do have to say that Shooter, the Mark Wahlberg movie adaptation of whichever Hunter book that was (which one was that?), does not measure up. Mediocre movie. Terrible casting.
