Well, yes, I did know that. :D

BUT. . .I've also found that almost anything on PG that I have interest in, is ALSO available free on Amazon. . . . you do have to check that the formatting and all is o.k. but in most cases it hasn't been a problem.  So I generally d/l from Amazon so that it's kept there automatically.

Alternatively, if I do want the PG version -- or if it's a work that isn't also on Amazon --  I'll d/l to my computer and send the file via Send to Kindle so that Amazon stores it for me anyway.

So far I've found pretty good quality on the Gutenberg files. There's some really impressive stuff on there. Complete works of Churchill, Chesterton, tons of Wodehouse, Malot... A lot of very intriguing looking journals of 18th and 19th century explorers and soldiers.
