Stop sending everything to my Kindle!!!

In the good days I'd go to books and I had a default set of where to deliver. Usually my Kindle library. But I could set it to send everything to my Kindle if I wanted. Or for one book I could choose to send it to my backup rather than my default. Now every purchase has nothing except "Deliver to your Kindle library". If you hover over that it says you can send it anywhere using manage content and devices. Ok, fine. Put it all in the library and when I want it I'll send it to my Kindle. But STUPID Amazon doesn't do that. It sends it ALL to my Kindle which fills it up when I don't want that. How do you make it do what it says it will do?

I'm having the same problem - most of the time. It says it will send to my "Kindle Library" but usually it sends to my default Kindle. Sometimes it actually goes to my library, but I never know what made it do right that time.

Maybe I should change my default to my old Kindle Keyboard that never goes online.

Yes, I guess I should do that and I can always just reset it if it fills up. I'd rather that STUPID Amazon fix it though.
Slightly chuckling here because I seem to remember a few months ago that people were complaining that when they bought stuff it no longer went to their default kindle but their 'library' and then they had to go to Manage Content and Devices and send it manually.

OR that the default kindle kept getting un-set. That used to happen to me but I haven't noticed it in a while.

I can say for sure that currently library books go to my default kindle and there's an opportunity right on the page at the time to then send it to other devices if I want. I feel like the same is true for purchased books but I don't do that as often so can't be sure I am remembering correctly.

If I download a KU book on my phone or tablet, that's the only place it ends up. Buying via Kindle apps is no longer supported.

If you're in 'home' view on a newer kindle, each new acquisition is going to be on the top banner and, unlike in the android app, you can't remove it from home. All you can do is download it or un-download it, but it stays in that banner. For me, that means it's cluttered with my daily newspapers so becomes not very useful; hence I keep it in Library view.

In Library view, you do have to watch whether you have it showing Downloaded or not. If not, you'll see everything you acquire whether it's on that device or not.

I guess, in the grand scheme of things, these oddities don't bother me that much. As long as I can find and read a book when I want to, I'm happy. :D

Yes, home view is way too cluttered and not helpful. I keep mine in library downloaded all the time. If my default ever went away I don't recall it. I tend to get a LOT of the freebies from the various daily emails. I'll never read most of them but who knows when I might take a notion for one and better while it's free. So I like it much better to just go to the library and when I want them I send to Kindle. When they all go to the Kindle I have to remove them which is a nuisance on the Kindle and which doesn't always work properly using manage C/D. Oh the trials and tribulations of Kindle reading!!!
I hear ya!

Still it's better than finishing all the books in your house and all you borrowed from the library and having NOTHING to read! I don't miss those days. :D

Yes, going through school in the 60's and 70's I spent a lot of time in the library and 2-3 years was able to get out of p.e. and spend that hour working in the library. I wish I had a dollar for every book I checked out of the library.

I have the same drop down option to pick a device; my problem is Amazon ignores my selection. No matter what I pick it sends it to the default device, except for those unexplained odd times it sends it to my library. Even when the purchase page says it will go to my library, it still usually goes to the default device. Except for a few random occasions when it really does go to the library.

I always download for transfer by USB. Amazon used to honor that choice but suddenly it started sending everything to the default Kindle regardless of what I select on the dropdown. So then I have to go to "MCD" and download; but at least that still works. Having the book go to my library is fine, I don't mind doing the "MCD" download, I just don't like having a truckload of books queued up waiting for me to take a device online. I try to avoid connecting my Kindles to wifi because I don't really trust Amazon not to do things to my Kindles I would rather they not do. Syncing, statistics and all the social media stuff have no value to me.

Anything I purchased from Amazon still goes to my default device.
Books I borrow from KU (unless I borrow them directly on a kindle) only go to my Amazon library.

That's exactly my complaint. Anything I purchase from Amazon goes to my default device. Used to be I could click a drop down and choose my library or an alternate device and that's where it went. Now there are no choices. Worse still, they lie and say it will go to your library and then you can MCD to send it where you wish. If only. No, they all go to the default device and clog it up.
Well, faint and fall over dead. I went to MCD and where I always am either in "books" under content or my device under "devices" I explored further. Under "Kindle" which I guess is for the Kindle app I found not only my iPhone I never ever use as a Kindle but also my Kindle Cloud Reader. I set it to default. We'll see what happens but maybe that solves the problem. I should get to test it and know for certain sometime in the next batch or two of Kindle content emails I get every day.

Interesting. I'll have to pay attention next time I get a book from KU. My recollection is that it would go automatically to my default device and then I could send it elsewhere much like a library book.

It is the case, if anyone is not yet aware, that they no longer allow USB transfer of KU titles.

I remember it behaving like this too. But at some point in the past year or so it changed. I tend to browse for books on a computer, and when I was borrowing from KU things stopped going to my Kindle. It was weird.
I have the same problem. Most of the time the kindle books I purchase go directly to the library and I then have to go to "Content and Devices" to sort out where to send the books.

Sometimes, I get the option to send it to a specific kindle at the time of purchase directly, but rarely. I like it that way. Go figure.

The problem arises when I have pre-order books that just go to the library and I don't know they went there. I now have to periodically go to Content and Devices to see if there are books sitting there that need to be sent to kindles for reading.

What a pain in the neck!

Mine keeps sending things to cloud reader, which I don't use. But, there is a drop down menu at the bottom of the thank you page, where you can choose where to send it.
I've never paid attention to the thank you page. I'll check that next time. I've solved it for now by setting cloud reader as my default. Then when I'm ready I can send things to my Kindle. Sometimes that is now though so the thank you page option my complete my desired solution. Thanks.

ETA No, I tried sending to my Scribe on the thank you page but it didn't send. I'll try again on my next purchase whenever that is in case it was some kind of fluke on this one but doesn't seem to work for me.

EATA I'm 1 for 2 on the thank you page option. I just got another book and the thank you option worked with it. So I'm sticking with my cloud as default and will use the thank you page when I want something immediately to my Scribe and hope for the best.
