It only works on files that are on your Kindle (books, samples, newspapers, personal docs..) It doesn't work on the home screen or menus either.

Yeah, would be nice. Maybe if the Text-to-Speech works out, they'll expand it...
Then again, if it doesn't it will go GoneGone like NowNow did.
