The Bad Book - article on Kriswrites.com

Kristine gets to her point in a round about way. First, why good stories get rejected, secondly, not all editors agree. What one loves another hates, and the same thing goes for books. What one reader adores is another's, "I couldn't get through it."

Does she mean ... quantity is quality?

(It's certainly a quality!)
Thanks so much for sharing this article, Lisa. I was feeling down because of a review that pointed out good things and bad things, ending with the suggestion that I unpublish my book and do a major rewrite. I do appreciate her constructive criticism, but right now I'd much rather devote my energy to writing the next book (which I am 16k words in, yay). This article gave me peace of mind  :)

That's why I posted a link. I get readers who read my books over and over again, yet I realize they won't appeal to most people outside a certain age range, all though I do get reader email from mothers and grandmothers so there is some crossover.

I think it's important to remember people have their favorites once you start getting several books or series out there, and it won't be the same for everyone.
Yeah. That's why you should never let one reader (or even a hundred) decide for you if a book is good or not. My favorite book (and series) in the whole world has more than it's fair share of 1 star reviews, many calling it boring, bland, dull, poorly written, etc. I'm glad that the author didn't listen to those reviews and kept writing.

Also, if I love an author, they are pretty much still on my auto-buy list for 3-4 books beyond a book from them that I don't love.

And I don't remember most of the books I thought were only so-so or skimmed. I definitely can't remember the author names in most cases.

Indifference is worse than outrage! ;D
I loved this article.  Thanks!
Wow. Thanks for posting that.

I've had a few people just outright hate my first book... as in write long winded rants about how it's the worst thing they ever read.

And even though I've had a few people like it, it's easy to get discouraged and let those bad reviews overshadow the good ones.

It can definitely be hard at times to remember that not everyone will like your work... but that's ok :)
