Thoughts on my new website design?

I re-designed my website a few days ago.

I designed it on a wide-screen monitor, but when I view it on my kindle/phone, it's a very different experience. The theme is fully responsive, but I'm not sure if my specific design works well.
I don't use a phone (or kindle) for browsing the internet, so don't have a lot of experience with looking at websites on screens that small.

Do you think I should start again with the design or do a separate design for mobile devices?

Overall the site looks great! The cover images are a bit large on mobile and it's difficult to see the 'read more' section when you click the cover. On a phone I'd normally expect clicking the cover to automatically take me to the 'read more' link.
I can't say to the mobile side of thing as I don't even own a cell phone, but I will say for the computer, I really like the design. It's easy to navigate, clean, and looks really well done.
It looks pretty great (and functional) at all sizes. You can get web dev plugins for Chrome like Window Resizer to see what it'll look like on different screens. The only thing I see that needs fixing is the link for the books. It's not clear that they can be clicked on (hover effects don't show on mobile). Can you make the "Read More" button pop up over the covers on smaller screens?
Your website looks stunning on my laptop! Gorgeous, haunting artwork! On my cell phone, it still looks good, although the books are arranged one at a time in a horizontal column of books, rather than in a vertical line. It wouldn't bother me to view it that way on my phone. The book cover artwork is all so gorgeous, I would still take a look at the individual books.

That's a good point. I only knew to click on the covers because of the earlier comments in this thread.
Thanks loads all - I really appreciate you taking a look (and thanks for nice comments :) )

I adjusted the portfolio settings - hope that fixes the layover issue (there are SO many settings - it's the GO portfolio plugin if anyone wants to know what it is)
My son's gone out and can't check on his phone (I don't have the internet on mine).

I'd like the portfolio items (book covers) to stay small when viewed on a phone instead of large and all vertical - I might ask the portfolio plugin developer if there's any code for this.

Holland, I just added the Window Resizer to Chome and will have a play with it - thanks!
Very, very nice!

But I can't see where to sign up for your mailing list. #1 most important thing to me!

If you just drag your browser to be as thin as it can go you'll be able to see what it looks like on a phone. You should test it on a device as well, but you'll get the gist. I looked at it on an iPhone6 and the screen cuts off just under the 1st line of button (ie under the hero image.)

It looks great btw, really evocative!

I put that last on the homepage slider, but you're right - if people don't see it, I lose out. Will think about either putting it in the header or first on the slider - thanks!

My browser refuses to go that thin lol
I can't even get the Chrome screen resizer to go any thinner. Will grab my son's iphone when he gets back :D

(Thanks to both of you for kind comments :) )
I really really like it Anya! My suggestions -

- Having the two READ MORE's is bit redundant. So ax one.
- Change SHOW MORE to LARGER COVER (makes more sense)
- A mailing list sign-up would be grand

Other than that - it's a gorgeous site! Well done on the design.

The website is great and I love your artwork, but I have a question. Where are your links to buy your books?
Well done! Very stylistic and genre appropriate. Good job on the video as well...and the covers. Please get a newsletter sign-up form asap.
Very nice. I really like it. I'm looking at it on Safari MacBook Pro 17 inch laptop.

Oops, yep, that's two 'read more' thingies now. Forgot about that. Hope I can get rid of the 'pull up' read more link.
'Larger cover' would definitely make more sense!
Thank you!

The links are all there when people (hopefully) click on the book covers and go through to the individual book pages. The book covers do get quite spread out on a small device, all in a single vertical line, so I guess people could miss that these are links....

(Thanks also crcowden and Douglas!! :) )
The website is really good. You do have a sign up link. Put the link as a tab at the top for a subscribe/ sign-up button. It should be visible at all times.
