For a 2-chapter memoir of Catholic boyhood in India:

GRANDPA AND THE SAINTS: A  MEMOIR OF INDIAN CATHOLIC LIFE

or

GRANDPA AND THE SAINTS: SCENES FROM A MANGALORE CATHOLIC BOYHOOD
?
(Mangalore is the name of the Southwest Indian town the book is set in).

And, for the book of humorous fantasy and time travel involving Jesus Christ, Buddha, Gandhi:

JESUS H. CHRIST IN LATTER DAY HACKENSACK
OR
JESUS H. CHRIST IN LATTER DAY NEW JERSEY
?

I feel Hackensack is funnier, but simply won't register to anyone outside the U.S. Northeast (they won't even know what it is), whereas everyone has heard of New Jersey.

Thanks!

I like Hackensack. I live in Nebraska and know where it is. However, that could be only because my sister once lived near there. Consider using Catholic Life in India. Many people confuse the  word Indian, not knowing whether it refers to someone from the country of India or a Native American.
I'd prefer the "Scenes from a Mangalore Catholic Boyhood" title. It gives me a much more accurate picture of the fact that its short to say "scenes" than to say "memoir". It also would catch my attention better and make me more likely to look at it. The words "scenes" and "boyhood" over "memoir" and "life" are the ones that actually stand out to me. I'd not want to read something called a memoir of a life that is short. Some snippets from a life could be interesting even when its short though because it doesn't seem like the mis-marketing will means I can't trust it.

For the second one - can you make the cover image one that even at the little size makes it clear its in NJ? If so you might be able to get the advantage of the more catchy title while if people see the cover they still know Hakensack is in NJ. Then you might be able to get both advantages.

My recommendations:

GRANDPA AND THE SAINTS: A MEMOIR OF INDIAN CATHOLIC LIFE

["Mangalore" is IMO too obscure for a title unless you add some kind of subtitle]

JESUS H. CHRIST IN LATTER DAY NEW JERSEY

[As you say, only North Easterners (and Billy Joel fans) will have heard of Hackensack]

Good luck!

Yes, come to think of it, "memoir" seems misleading for such a short work.
I would use New Jersey too, to get a wider readership.
Thanks all for the feedback.
I think I will go with GRANDPA AND THE SAINTS: SCENES FROM A CATHOLIC BOYHOOD IN INDIA
(though a bit long, to avoid the Indian confusion)

and
JESUS H. CHRIST IN NEW JERSEY
(to remove the problem of Hackensack not being widely known; sorry, New Jersey!)

TK Kenyon: Surprised to know hear about your being married to an Indian. KB felt like such an American heartland kind of place, and I used to feel like an outsider; but I notice the world is shrinking, there are so many more mixed-race marriages and children now, and that's all good as far as I am concerned. "India" is a hugely diverse place, and sometimes, even Indians forget it (an Indian met me and asked me, "Did you change your name after you went to America?).
