Okay kboarders.

This debate has been raging on for a while.

While none of us has insight into Amazon's algorithm and ranking criteria,
between us we have a wealth of experiential knowledge as to what has had a bigger impact.

So - in your business - which has had a bigger impact?
KEYWORDS...
or
CATEGORIES?

Vote in the poll above, then let's discuss below!

How to Dominate with Keywords:

Select your genre (-ex- romance)

Determine what relevant keyword phrases have the highest search volume in that genre

Figure out which of those relevant, high-demand keyword phrases you want to rank for

Optimize your book listing for those keyword phrases (book title, book description, book keywords)

When linking to your book from 3rd-party locations (your blog, social media, email), include your keyword phrase
How to Dominate with Categories:

Select your genre (-ex- romance)

Browse in the top level category for your genre, and navigate down to sub-categories suitable to your book

Determine which sub-categories have high demand, but relatively few books meeting that demand

Choose those high-demand, low-competition categories for your book

Promote your book. Because of your category selection, you have a good chance of entering the Top 20(or better) in that category
