How to Dominate with Keywords:

[*]Select your genre (-ex- romance)
[*]Determine what relevant keyword phrases have the highest search volume in that genre
[*]Figure out which of those relevant, high-demand keyword phrases you want to rank for
[*]Optimize your book listing for those keyword phrases (book title, book description, book keywords)
[*]When linking to your book from 3rd-party locations (your blog, social media, email), include your keyword phrase

How to Dominate with Categories:

[*]Select your genre (-ex- romance)
[*]Browse in the top level category for your genre, and navigate down to sub-categories suitable to your book
[*]Determine which sub-categories have high demand, but relatively few books meeting that demand
[*]Choose those high-demand, low-competition categories for your book
[*]Promote your book. Because of your category selection, you have a good chance of entering the Top 20(or better) in that category
