I was one of those that did that survey. I didn't know most of those names. I read a lot, I read 100's of books a year. It all depends what you read. There are genres I just don't read, period. I like what I like. My preferences have changed over the years, but what I used to read, most of you wouldn't know either as it was german authors a lot then.
I also don't really check or look up whats on the NY bestseller list, I have no clue.
Lets not insinuate any kind of degree of being well read or not, just because of a list of names. A small list it is, in the world of authors and genres out there. Any insinuations just come across as snobbish.
eta: to add, in some cases I might know the title of the book, but couldn't for the life of me recall the name of the author. So I might have seen books of the authors on that list at some point, who knows.
