What are you doing (or have you done) for New Years?

We have a tradition here of having nibbles for dinner.  Then our house is open for anyone that wants to stop by.  We usually have a few of our boys' friends stop by for a bit.  Then early to bed for DH and reading for me.  Last time we went to a party was to see in the millennium.  What can I say, we are fuddy duddies...

We don't party anymore.  Just stay home and watch the ball drop, small glass of champagne and then off to bed.  Tonight I might skip the champagne.  Eggnog instead....

I don't even do champagne any longer.  The last two times I had it, I was ill the next day.  And I didn't over indulge either time, one glass and 1/2 glass in that order.  So, it will be juice for me.
It was last night for us. We curled up on the couch with nibbles, sparkling wine and DVDs. Nice and peaceful, and I managed to stay wake till midnight. :)

It's a beautiful day for the start of the year: brilliant sunshine and a gentle breeze.
I used to party at least somewhat. Or rather it was more like family parties. No family here other than husband now and both of us are lucky if we can stay awake until midnight.  :D

I am continuing with my family tradition of watching "Dinner for One" (The 90's birthday). Virtually unknown here in the US but I am lucky to have found a youtube of it. I watch every year on new years eve. It was tradition back in Germany. The other thing I can't continue as I can't find the supplies is lead melting. We would get chunks of lead or tin, melt them down and then into water. Then we would "read" the result.  :D

I also miss the yearly fondue. It was also what we did on New Years eve. Perfect to wait out til midnight as fondue takes forever.

But since its so crappy out, I will make wurschtgulasch, open a nice wine, watch Dinner for One and then wait til midnight and catch some fireworks far far away from our apartment balcony  ;D

I cannot drink champagne anymore. Used to like it just fine. I can't even get it down anymore. So wine it is. Which I never had any issues getting down.  :p

Well, I had a free Subway sub for lunch since the Redskins won yesterday and scored over 20 points.  And we had a Papa Johns Pizza with 8 toppings since they had 4 touchdowns and won.

We've also been watching the Doctor Who marathon on BBCA but we'll probably actually be in bed before it's next year.

After Mass tomorrow we're having our friends over for brunch -- we got a Pecan pancake mix from someone at Christmas and it seems like a good time to make 'em.

You can just use bits of wax such as candle stumps for lead casting. Put the wax on an old spoon, melt it and cast it into a pot of cold water. Works just as well as lead and has the advantage of not using poisonous heavy metals. I haven't seen actual lead casting sets here in Germany in ages - it's most wax casting sets these days.

Anyway, I watched Dinner for One, then had dinner at an Italian restaurant with my family. Back home we watched a bit of TV (the big party in Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate), drank champagne and set off some fireworks at midnight.
We are going to watch a movie.  I doubt we make it till midnight.

I've already got a headache and I haven't indulged in anything.

My neighborhood fireworks will probably keep me awake long past midnight, so I plan on snuggling up in bed with a good book and a glass of wine until I fall asleep.

My daughter's neighbor does a New Year's Day party.
Just staying at home with my wife.  We plan to eat ice cream and drink black cherry soda at midnight.  LOL
My wife and I are hanging out at home watching the Doctor Who marathon on BBC America.  We have plans to eat ice cream and drink black cherry soda at midnight.

Simple pleasures.
I think we'll be turning in Dr. who soon. So far today I've taken down one tree and done five loads of laundry. I love having days off!
Watching I.Q. (movie) with DH & DD. Quiet night in keeps us all off the roads.

What a neat idea with the wax. :)
I know my parents still did the lead a a few years ago, but I have been gone for a while so not sure if the still do it now.
About time for "Dinner for One" for me.

First post from my fire. I think I am too old for this touch typing :D
Happy New Year, KindleBoards friends!!!!

I'm starting to work on a novella with the Twilight Zone marathon on TV (Ray Bradbury's "I Sing the Body Electric" just finished).

They just blew off fireworks in town, so I'm also trying to comfort my terrified collie, who is curled up in a ball beside the couch.

Happy New Year, everybody!

I am staying home with my family and chatted with my long time friend on the phone. I watched New Year's Eve TV. ;D
My family and I just got to Hawaii early this morning and are chilling with my mom's side of the family and all of the kids (kids off from school but not all the parents are off so its a big sleep over.) Early start tomorrow we are ALL migrating to the cabin at Bellows (sp?). Play and relax on the beach for a bit before 1 o'clock lunch with Uncle and then 430 dinner with my dad's side of the family
