I'm sorry if this has already been covered before, I did a search and couldn't find anything.

Does anyone know who actually makes the Kindle?  I know Amazon doesn't make it...

Also, has anyone got any info on what CPU/OS the Kindle uses?

TIA

Manufacturing is jobbed out to several plants, mainly in Taiwan. It uses an Intel PXA255 300 MHZ processor and a Linux-based operating system.
Thanks for the quick reply!

It amazes me that you know this. Now *that's* devotion. :)

Hi, Jeff -

I've not heard of this information.  Thank you for providing a reply.  May I ask where you found the info?

It does not seem to be on Amazon's Kindle page, that's for sure.

Sorry, Marci. I missed your question until today.

When I was considering publishing for the Kindle I found a web site where somebody had taken a Kindle apart, listed the components and discussed how it worked. That's all I remember. I wrote down the information about the processor and OS but failed to note the URL.
