I have a three-part novella coming out next week (1 part per month) I don't want to spend loads of money on covers, and I need to spend more time writing than graphicking - what do you think? changing the colours shows it to be a different edition. When all three parts are done I will also then publish it as one single book. Will it work?

The images are lovely and definitely say sci-fi, but the font is underwhelming, sorry.

Some cover designers will do just the title at a discounted rate. Really nice, branded typography could turn the covers from good to great. ;)

I'd agree. With Darcy. The image is fine, but I don't love the type.

Another question for you. Are these three parts three novellas that make a book or three parts that make a novella? And, if it's the second, how long is each part?

Thanks - I like the pics. I'm happy to do my own fonts. They've worked well on previous books - I will take a look at some others.

It's three parts of a novella - it's an infill story for the Pattern Universe and will only go into KPD select until it's finished (Parts 1 & 2 are done, part 3 is in my head still). Each section will be approx 12k words, possibly more on the last.

Would it be helpful if I linked a few fonts I've found attention-grabbing? These are all from Kboard authors, and the fonts (even though most of them are relatively simple) are distinctive and always manage to catch my eye as I scroll past. ;D

The image looks great. I think changing the color is enough to make the individual stories stand on their own. What if you used the same font you used for The Pattern Ship.

I don't mind the font, it doesn't pop out, but it works fine I think. Personally, the only thing I didn't like is the excess of black on the cover, it makes it look heavy and slow, not very exciting. I understand space is black and all that, but perhaps a nebula-like background just to give it some texture and pop it out more the spacebase? It can have the colors of each part (orange, blue and purple). Nothing overwhelming that would make it hard to read the title, but I think it would make the cover more professional. Something like this

Thanks everyone. We're getting into a professional critique here about fonts, backgrounds etc., As I said I DON'T want to spend time (or money) graphicking, but my main concern as in the OP is that WILL the three different colours differentiate them enough for readers to distinguish the parts. My thanks to Cadyvance. :)
