Yet another newb question

Hi guys!
I hope this isn't a foolish question BUT I uploaded my first book the other day and did a KS free promotion for the first three days. I moved about three hundred or so books in that time (majority free, couple of paid) and garnered a few reviews (even some from people I don't actually know). My question: is that a good start? I'm so out of my depth with the business side of this endeavor that I just need some kind of benchmark to work from. Thanks in advance.

Only you can answer that question. I'd suggest setting some specific goals. Are you trying to give away 10,000 books? Sell 1,000? It's difficult to measure your progress without having defined goals.

There are a lot of variables involved. The number of downloads and sales you get and how "good" those numbers are depend highly on the genre and the theme of the book. Some genres have negligible competition and even becoming the #1 bestseller can be done by selling only a few books. While in others, you can sell hundreds on your first day and still not crack the top.

Did you do any promotions?

Without any promotions, I'd say you got decent results.
