And here's the UK List

I don't plan to regularly update this post, but will try to post a reminder each month. Or someone else certainly can!

For January, we get to choose 2.

Happy New Year, everybody!

Thanks, Ann.

I feel like I should make a comment when you've gone to the trouble to post the reminder but, to be honest, I'm running out of ways to say "nothing appeals to me this month".

Also, thinking about it, being able to get them on KU anyway sort of makes the whole thing irrelevant to me.

.... my TBR list for KU is already sooooo long!
The problem with long TBR lists is I can never decide whether to read another one in a series I'm working my way through (and I read a LOT of series!) or binge read all the remaining books in a series, or for a change start yet another series, or read a stand-alone.

A first world problem to be sure. I just wish I could make up my mind about a strategy.

I hear ya! I almost never binge read a series. I've done that in the past, and find I kinda get burned out after half dozen or so.

I also have to keep track of the time period -- because I don't want to read books from 2 series set in, say, the 1920s back to back, because it takes my brain longer to separate the characters. :) So I have to jump around in series and time.

For whatever reasons, I too find little on these monthly lists interesting. And, can get most on KU anyway. A series read usually loses me after three or four as well. Most series today seem too much formula and not enough creativity after a few books - how many times can the hero get shot in the shoulder, beaten up on a street corner, in a dark alley, or tied up in a basement or a closet, and then escape in the nick of time.

New Books up for June. Again it's choose one and get a bonus short read.

Lots of 'thrillers', also 'book club' and 'womens' fiction -- what even is that? :D There's an historical that appears to be generational as well. The historical fantasy is a maybe. AND there is a new genre this month: sexy romance.

Honestly, though, I've so much to read already, I'll probably skip this month .... again!

July books are up .... this month pick 2 of 10. Nothing appeals. Even the one labeled as "mystery" is described in its write up as "psychological suspense" so I'll be passing this month. Again.

I went for the Arlington Hall book (job sounds like something I'd like to read about, I've enjoyed WWII code-breaker-people books in years past, not so sure about the romance-angle). Also took the short story - seems like something I'd enjoy but not as a long-read.
I'm definitely not into suspense, thriller, horror, psycho, or other awful-stuff, not after reading the daily news.

I can't remember the last FR book I got! :)

And, ya know, there are SO MANY decent mystery series in KU ... which is where all these first reads books end up. My theory is they don't offer those as first reads 'cause they sell (or get borrowed) so well anyway. Maybe what they're trying to do with this program is get some attention for stuff that otherwise wouldn't move.

September books are up .... this month pick 1 of 9. As has been the case, 1 of the 9 is a 'bonus short read' so, really, you can pick it and one other.

I grabbed the Magical Realism title, A House Between Sea and Sky. Read the write up and it sort of appealed.

ALSO, I should report that I had picked up a book from July (actually got it right at the end of the month) called The Women of Arlington Hall. I started reading it a few days ago and I'm liking it. Good KU choice for those who like Historical Fiction. This is set in the late 40s/early 50s and the place is Arlington, VA (where I currently live). I gather there was a code breaking facility here where they did work on cracking Russian codes.

Anyway, here's the US Link: Amazon First Reads

And here's the UK List Same titles except one less, for some reason.

Thanks for the link, I can't believe it's that time again. It's true what they say about time seeming to move faster and faster the older you get!

That's an interesting choice you've made for this month, I'm not sure if it would be my cup of tea. I'm giving it a miss again this month.
