I would suggest when you buy the Kindle in the the UK you uncheck the option to have it automatically registered to your account in case it gets registered to a new UK account. When you get the Kindle you can then register it yourself to your US account to be sure it's correct.

You should then be able to buy books as you normally would from the US store. Certainly when people go on holiday they can buy books from their Amazon account registered in their home country so you shouldn't have any problems, unless there's a time limit to how long you can do that.

Any books you've previously bought from Amazon on the account you register it to will be available to download on the new device.

Side-loading books bought elsewhere is another matter but provided the files are DRM free and in a format supported by the Kindle you should be able to load them. Basically, if you could load them on earlier models you should able to do so on a new model.

Remember, if you have any problems and it turns out not to work for you, you have thirty days to return it for a refund.

One can still shop for a new Oasis. Catch is now they are only available to be shipped to other countries. With that information one can imagine there be other restrictions on Kindles bought overseas. I would get word from Amazon before taking the chance.

I'd echo Linda's comments (she lives in the UK) with one caveat. Apparently the new kindles currently for sale via Amazon.com (US) do NOT allow sideloading of content. From what I've read, when you connect them to a computer, they do not show up as a drive the way older ones used to. For me this is no big deal. But I know there are a number of folks here for whom that is a deal breaker. Basically, to get books onto your device, you have to go through Amazon, either buying/borrowing there, borrowing via a Library, or using the wireless Send to Kindle option.

I suspect it's a software setting, and might not be the case for kindles sold outside the US; if it's hackable, someone will figure it out.
