I need to fix a web-site that was created with dreamweaver.
Don't think I want to spend the  money for it.
Right now I am leaning toward WordPress.
What do you think?  What are your experiences?  Advice?

I've also heard that you must be very diligent to keep WordPress up-to-date to fix ongoing security concerns.

My website is WordPress and I have built three others via WordPress - I love it. I love how easy it is to use and how many widgets and plugins there to adapt it. You can pretty  much do anything and everything and I like it better than the others.

I really like Squarespace. Again, it depends on what you are doing. I have used it for my blog and also built two commerce sites for clients. They have unique software that allows for you to really customize the look of your site without having to know code. You can use the same basic template as 10 other people but your site can look completely custom.

They just updated there operating system for users of 6 to 7 (though my blog still uses the older 5 and did not have to update).
I was not happy with their timing for these commerce sites I work on... as they forced the update this time! Right before the Xmas rush, really? However it was not too bad, some minor hitches and they do have pretty good customer service though no phone help.

Hope that helps!

Depending on how much you need to do with the site, you could just pay for the monthly plan and get Dreamweaver for $20 a month.  Just look for Adobe's Creative Cloud plans.

I'll chime in with the others--I am very happy with Wordpress and have used it to create multiple sites. If you want to see a few examples:

inane2015.com
inane2014.com
nursingeditors.com
mainedesk.com

You can see on the two INANE sites how I integrated pages with Wufoo forms for conference registration, evaluations, and so on.

Let me know if you need more info, Geoff. Happy to help!

I am wondering if all of you used WordPress at their site or used the tool elsewhere?
And the same for the other tools.  It seems to me that the easiest route is to either decide on a tool and then use it wherever it lives or find a place and use whatever tool they provide.  Or am I oversimplifying it?

I downloaded Wordpress from the Wordpress site, developed on my PC (where I have Wampserver installed, providing Apache, PHP, and MySQL), then FTP'd the files up to my web host when it was ready to go -- so I did not use the Wordpress installation my web host company supplied. (Not necessarily anything wrong with that, I just wanted to do all the development and testing locally -- and I'm a programming geek.)

For the examples that I showed you: inane2014, inane2015, and nursingeditors--these are on Wordpress.com (hosted by Wordpress). Oh, and one I forgot to mention before: pcfcme.com.

Mainedesk.com is the oldest and was originally hosted elsewhere, so it is on wordpress.org.

Wordpress.org has more flexibility with plug-ins and so on, but I think wordpress.com is easier to use and that is what I prefer. But because of the way mainedesk.com is hosted, I can't change it, so there it is.

I use wordpress.  If you aren't the type to want to fool with plug-ins, you can use wordpress.com.  That's more a feature that allows you less configuration, but is easier to install and it just runs.  With either product, the updates are automated now so there's no hassle there.  I use Wordpress because husband is a guru and he can make the pages do whatever I need them to do.  You can make it look like a website by using pages as opposed to "new posts."  I don't know much about wordpress.com, but it is simple and easy to use because I've done that much with it.  I just didn't try pages versus posts.

I use lunarpages to host it (and, full disclosure, I'm an affiliate for them) because they have plans that run under 10 dollars a month and it includes one domain name for the package I use.  I've used them for years and been very happy with them.

To give you some feedback:
For the website that I needed to get done, I used the development tool that Network Solutions provides because I wanted it done and did not want to incur any extra cost.  Most WordPress managed sites charge extra for the WordPress management.  The next one I will use WordPress just because.
NogDog - I loaded Wamp on my computer and downloaded WordPress to it.  Have DIVI II theme that pretty much provides all the functionality one might want.  Because this is a spare-time learning/earning activity I will see how this goes but am expecting good results.
If you want to see how I did go look at www.lcg.bz.  I did create the website from scratch, using one of their themes/templates.  We went out and acquired the artwork, took our own pictures and asked some associates what they thought of the results, incorporating the responses.
Thank you all for your help and I hope you day is successful.

Overall, looks pretty nice and easy to read (important to me, anyway). I'll provide 2 (unsolicited?) suggestions:

1. The white text on the top left of the (pretty) image kind of gets lost. I'd look into some way to make it stand out more (different color and/or use of a drop shadow effect?). It might also be a good idea to make those 3 bullet points into links to related subject pages.

2. You might want to look into some of the available WP plug-ins for making the site hand-held device friendly. (Google has just this month updated their search result algorithms to favor sites with good mobile support for search requests detected as coming from mobile devices.)

My website is WordPress and I have never regretted it. Easy to use and endlessly adaptable. They have plugins for everything. I have built other websites using it and I just love it.
