The evidence in the Reddit post is pretty damning but you'll now find many references to that post in the self-pub world. Dawson has yet to make any public comment (as has his company Self Publishing Formula - or whatever it's now called) but who knows what's going on behind the scenes. There could be legal moves from Dawson against the author of the post but don't discount legal moves against Dawson from those authors whose works he allegedly plundered.
Might be interesting if anyone here with some legal knowledge could explain what claim the author in question might have against the Reddit poster, given the evidence he/she provided to back up the allegations. As for legal action against the author in question, those other authors would have to know about it first.

Someone on Twitter, back in early January, claimed some of the material that the Reddit poster alleges is also to be found in Mark Dawson's books has now been edited out of those books. I wonder if the plan continues to be pretending like nothing has happened and hoping these allegations remain limited to the self-pub world and away from his readers. This would explain why he has not responded to these allegations. The Redditor has added an extremely alarming update, alleging Mark Dawson has plagiarised Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men.

A major new update has arrived on Reddit, with the original Redditor providing new examples he alleges are taken from works by Cormac McCarthy, Elmore Leonard and William Boyd among others. Like many on Reddit, I am genuinely surprised there is so little interest in this.

So disappointed to read about Mark. :(

Many years ago, before social media, a journalist joked that a fellow journalist had used the phrase 'with rat-like cunning' and other journalist had admired it so much that they had purloined it for their own use. :D. I wonder how that would go down today?

After reading about the plagiarism I was obliged to check the tagline on my Headmaster book (Lust shouts. Love whispers. Only the heart knows the difference. Which is my original work:) ) as I've seen it quoted in a couple of places, sometimes attributed to me, and sometimes not. I found it on a page on "Collection of 21 famous quotes about The Difference Between Love And Lust you must read" on Quotestats dot com. It was attributed to me :D. Now I'm wondering how I can use my 'fame' to sell more books.

The Reddit post has now expanded again, with the Redditor now alleging, with what he claims is substantial evidence in quotations from various books, that Mark Dawson has plagiarised not only Stephen Hunter (I, Sniper), William Boyd (William Boyd interviews James Bond), Cormac McCarthy (No Country For Old Men) and Elmore Leonard (Out Of Sight), but also James Ellroy (The Big Nowhere), Craig Thomas (Firefox), Andy McNab (Immediate Action), F. Scott Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby) and Lee Child (One Shot). There may be others, but there's starting to be just too much to go through and read. Still no response from Mark Dawson addressing these allegations, still zero interest from the media, and as far as I know Amazon are still selling all of the books detailed in the allegations.

No response from Mark Dawson yet as far as I know
Has Mark Dawson responded yet?
As far as I know, there has been no response, not even to people inside his SPF Facebook group who have paid for his courses. Someone on Reddit said any mention of it in there is instantly deleted, but I cannot confirm this because I have no access to that group. I'm not on Mark Dawson's mailing list either so I don't know if he has responded to readers via that.

What should be of concern to all authors is that if these allegations are found to be true and there are no consequences, it sends the worst possible message not only to all people writing for a living, but also to readers who will decide they cannot trust authors or publishers.

He seems to have stepped down from SFF and his partner is now running it alone(at least publicly). It was posted in SFF group (former SFF). Now its named different - Learn Self Publishing. In a way that's a statement quietly.

It's a bit odd that the alleged plagiarism wasn't caught previously, especially if such alleged plagiariism includes language taken from such well known authors and books.

I wonder how Mark, or his co-author, collected all the phrases and sentences they have used. Did they perhaps make a collection of phrases for future use after reading the well-known novels, or did they search for useful phrases by reading similar novels to the ones they were writing?

Interesting you mention "co-author" because there is some discussion on Reddit about whether or not Mark Dawson uses a ghost writer. I watched his podcast from time to time and he was always very clear about how much he enjoyed the creative process of writing, and he reiterated this more recently when the subject of AI came up on the podcast. I can only speculate about how this might or might not fit into the allegations.

Despite these very serious allegations, in which dozens of examples of plagiarism across multiple Dawson titles were alleged, with accompanying evidence, it looks like Hachette are continuing to publish Mark Dawson's Atticus Priest series, under a new imprint called Mountain Leopard Press, at least according to a new upload to Amazon.

At the same time, the other authors in question -- the ones who the Redditor is saying were plagiarized -- have not seemed to either said much, or filed any court actions.
Can only think that they feel Mark's books are not a threat to their sales.
