No more send-to-Kindle in MOBI (they seem to mean it now)

I got an email today from Amz reminding that they will no longer support MOBI -- start 'winding down' 11/1/23 and end completely by 12/20/23.
However, "MOBI documents already in your Kindle library and other document formats will not be affected by this change."

I guess if you have any MOBI files that you want in your Amz library (that you can't get/convert to EPUB) you better send them now (or find another app to read them in).

I may try sending some EPUBs that I tried a year or so ago that wouldn't go thru but the MOBI did, even after they started supporting EPUB.

Not that I have any hope of ever reading everything in my library or other stash. :)

I got the same email. I only very rarely come across something that I want on kindle in a MOBI format. And the last time I sent such a thing it went through (I used the right click applet in Windows) but I got a message saying that at some point it won't work any more.

I have several times tried to send EPUBs since they said conversion would be supported, but they never seemed to work. At least not from my computer. They were files from book funnel, free books, and supposedly had no copy protection so I don't know what the deal is.

I did go ahead and bookmark the web version of send to kindle just in case. But, again, I don't see it being a huge issue for me. Probably if I get such a file and can't get it to convert, I just won't be reading it. :D

I do chuckle about the whole thing: Amazon was the one that put MOBI on the map as their original file format 15 years ago was based on MOBI. But now MOBI is BAD. And Yet ..... EPUB is not "good" enough for Amazon to just have kindle support it without conversion.
